It was the end of school. Class ended, and I said goodbye to my new classmates. They still invited me to karaoke after school, as if I was never a transfer student in the first place.
My class is really friendly, the students are nice too. I wonder why they ended up in Class D. I thought.
Before going to my new home, I went to a nearby convenience store to buy some groceries. The school has given me 100 thousand private points (ppt) plus 48,900 ppt's, yeilding a total of 148,900 ppt's to my name.
"I have more than ten times the amount of money I had. In addition, I don't have to pay for electricity and water."
I arrived in the convenience store. But before I entered, I saw a depressed figure walking out the doors of the store.
I guess she also went to buy her groceries at the same day, so she wouldn't have to go out again.
The figure was Ichinose Honoka, the supposed leader of Class 2-D. When she passed by me, I asked a question.
"Hey," I asked. "Would you mind telling me what happened last year? I'm new but I want to help out as much as possible."
"Just ask Akio."
What an empty reply.
"I mean... you're the leader of our class. Because of that I-"
"NO! I-I'm... not the leader. I don't deserve it. I'm not fit to be a leader."
Her sudden audible scream trembled my body. My eyes opened wide from the surprise.
After that, she began to walk away. I didn't ask more, in fear of retaliation.
I'm new, so I guess don't need to get into something deep.
I went inside the conveniece store. As I entered, the mechanical bell rung. I bought basic neccesities such as food, water, and cleaning products. I went to the checkout counter, and put my phone nearby the scanner. It immediately charged me of the purchases
Wow, so advanced. I don't even have to use physical cash.
I left the store, and walk to the second year dorms. On the way, I saw a figure with black silky hair, smooth skin, and a beautiful face. Her hands tucked in her red blazer. It was Horikita Yukiko, leader of Class 2-B, and with her was another student with a tall figure and dark purplish hair.
They were in a friendly conversation, seemingly talking about their first day of school.
"Your hair has definitely grown, Horikita." said the female student.
"Yeah, I don't care whether I have longer or shorter hair. Although, my mom likes shorter hair."
"What about your father?" she asked.
"I'm not really confortable talking about my family situation." Horikita replied.
"Jeez, cold." the female student continued. "Do you at least know your father?"
"No, my mom said it was a secret."
"I think your lying to me."
"Hey Kanzaki-san, have you heard about the new transfer student that was put in Class D?"
Oh god, she immediately changed the topic to me. Why am I the talk of the day?
"You're just gonna ignore me? Oh well. Do you know if the transfer student is a man or woman?" asked Kanzaki.
"I don't know. I didn't see him or her during the entrance ceremony." Horikita replied.
"That poor student. There is no chance for him or her to graduate in Class A."
"Ichinose-san is also destroyed. There is no chance of them reaching Class A."
Apparently, the other class leaders have determined that Ichinose's class is destroyed, having no chance of reaching Class A.
"Hey Horikita, what if you had a secret brother or sister that your family has never told you about?" wondered Kanzaki.
"Nah, no way. There is no way my mom or my secret father could ever hide such a thing from me. But if she did tell me after we graduate Class A, I'd be surprised."
"Hey, Horikita-san let's go to the convenience store. I need to buy something." asked Kanzaki.
"You go, I need to do some research about physical tests for the special exams."
"Ehh? But school just started! Let's relax a bit." whined Kanzaki.
"We need to get to Class A, okay?"
"Ugh, fine I'll go then. You're always like this, you need to socialize more. Okay, bye!"
"Bye."
Horikita turned around to see Kanzaki off, but ended up spoting me. She approached me with somewhat confused eyes.
"Hello, I'm Horikita Yukiko, Class 2-B. Are you perhaps the new transfer student?" she asked.
A slight drop of sweat appeared on my forehead
"Uhh, yes. How did you know it was me?"
"I haven't seen your face in this school until today."
Class leaders sure are impressive, and scary.
"I-I'm new here. So may I ask what her name was? Just in case we meet up again."
"Oh... she's my classmate, Kanzaki Ayaka. She's pretty popular among our class."
Kanzaki Ayaka, my dad had an associate with the last name Kanzaki. She might be the daughter of that guy then.
"I'm guessing you heard our conversation? Sorry for badmouthing your class. Ever since that special exam, everything changed..." she continued, "Did the school give you a brief overview on how the rules work? We rarely see transfer students."
"Ahh yes, before the entrance exam I was called to the chairman's office, and during the entrance exam, we were in a special room."
"So you really did hear about our conversation?"
Eek! I unknowingly answered.
"Haha... yeah. I didn't mean to eavesdrop. S-sorry."
"It's fine. Sorry, I didn't ask your name. What is it?"
I was so nervous I didn't even realise.
"R-Ryō Kitahama."
"Nice to meet you Ryō-kun."
We arrived in the dorms and entered the elevator. It was complete silence.
This is awkward.
"Okay this is my floor. Well, we might meet again, Ryō-kun."
"Ahh! Is this the 4th floor?" I asked.
"Oh, this is the 3rd.. The boys' floors are the 1st, 3rd and 5th. The girls' floors are 2nd, 4th, 6th."
"Thank you!"
"Good luck."
Good luck on what?
I stopped on the 4th floor. The elevator opened with a ding.
"Okay, I'm on room... 401."
398... 399... 400... 401. There it is.
I took out my key card, and swiped it on the mechanical door knob. A beep confirmed it was successful.
I entered the room. There was a soft bed, a desk, a TV, bookshelves, and some of the old stuff I gave to the school.
"I guess they brought my stuff here. It's like I'm from royalty."
There was even a small kitchen! I have these all to myself.
I jumped in the soft bed with a relaxing sigh.
"Ahh, man. I don't need to sleep in the floor any longer. I have abundant water and a roof to live in."
I was glad to finally have some independence.
"Well, I guess it's time to read more about how this school works."
So far, this is what I know about the rules: Each class is ranked from A to D. The class with the most Class Points is Class A and the least, Class D. Class Points are added or subtracted depending on how you act during class. Most Class Points are earned through special events or special exams. These special exams are conducted to make the students compete and test whether which class deserves to be at the top. The more Class Points your class has, the more private points you'll get. Graduating in Class A will give you privilages such as the choice to enter into any career you want or into any University, and more.
"Well let's take a look on my classmates OAA."

I guess... I'm finally free.
That night, I slept well.
