The title says enough and yet I come across stories where the 'mature' is on the story and yet it only covers the sex in the stories. Well, one thing at the time.
Mature content refers to works containing content that may be considered not suitable for viewing by some audiences (especially children), such as nudity, blood, guns, alcohol, drugs, violence, adult language, and other similar themes.
I really don't care about the fact that I googled this because it's the best summary to keep it general. While sex falls in the same category there are other things as well to consider. So, on to the next one.
While sex is not necessary in the story it has some names through the One Shots, and I have lost count of how many stories there are where you call it 'lemon', 'smut', 'nsfw', 'spicy', 'hentai' or whatever you come up with. It is what it is, but think for a second, do you need sex in your story just to show that they love each other? Do you need sex in your story to gain readers? If you can answer both questions with no, then don't go there. Most of the time when I read the sex scene in a story, I feel like the author doesn't have experience or not enough experience themselves. And by the way, why do they describe it like it takes like five or ten minutes in bed and the two characters either came or orgasm or one of the two. The emotions just aren't there for me. Either way, skip the sex part if you don't have enough experience or don't know what you're talking about.
On another note, sex isn't always a good thing because for many reasons. The first thing is that both people need to give their consent to the other one. If it's against someone's will then it's obviously rape, and rape is a crime. Not to mention any possible outcome if it's without protection. Sure, it can kill the mood but not always, and using a condom isn't hundred percent safe either.
Things to consider when you want to write those spicy scenes:
One, it would help if the author had some experience. If not, there are websites where you can look things up. I'm not going to name them but just Google it, and you'll get results.
Second, know the difference between love and lust. The term 'friends with benefits' comes from somewhere, right?
Third, instead of using a pregnancy after unsafe sex, I would love to read about an STD. Sure, it's not the best outcome but it's a possibility.
Fourth, and this is the most important of all, think really hard about how you want to describe it because if you're not comfortable with it, then don't do it.
Well, that's it for this chapter. It's short but sometimes there isn't much to say about it without falling into an entire rant that goes on and on. In the next chapter I'll share my top 10 annoyances with you and why.
It won't be long or I'll get more specific on certain topics.
