I spend the next day moving my stuff into the Alpha suite with Ellie while Nico spends his day with the rest of the guys attending to his duties. Ellie leaves around 3 to spend some time with Gavin before tonight. Nico comes in around 4 to me sprawled on the bed, book in hand and earpods in my ears listening to my phone on shuffle. He grabs my books from me and sets it at the night table next to him with a smirk on his face.

"Hey! That's mine!" I say as I reach across the bed for the book.

"Nuh uh kitten, not so fast," he says as he grabs me by my waist and draws me up to his chest.

I shiver automatically, but then chide myself on doing anything to let his ego grow, as I hear the rumble of approval in his chest.

"Let me go Nico! C'mon I was at a suspenseful part."

"Hmmm. I don't think so." He says as he brings his nose down to my face and his fingers take my hair from the ponytail, and runs them through my hair.

Though my body is quickly heating up, and I just want to bask in the feeling of him actually wanting me, I fight the urge to melt right in front of him and push him off of me.

"Nic, the book pleasssseeee." I say as I make my eyes big and quiver my lips in a pout.

"Darn it Shae, I can't resist that face. And don't notice that little nickname you gave me." He says as he hands the book back to me but puts me on his lap as well.

"Do you not like it? I can just call you Nico if you want."

"No way, I like that you gave me a nickname. It makes the beast in me giddy."

"Ugh, you guys are so primal. Especially tonight. Wait, why are you here? When does the run start? Do I have to be there?"

"Well we are wolves, and our inner beasts are strongest tonight. And the run starts at eight and no, I don't want you there. In fact, I don't want any females there. We restricted the running grounds and have instated a curfew. With Derek still in his coma, the potential threat still out there and with the arrival of Blood Moon tomorrow this run couldn't have come at a worse time."

While he speaks I can see how worried he is and his loyalty to the pack tug at my heartstrings. I get off of his lap, turn to face him on my knees, and take his face in my hands. As soon as my hands touch his face the fire roars back into my body and I see Nico close his eyes and lean into my touch.

"Nico, calm down. Everything is going to be fine okay. The pack respects you and will understand why you have to restrict the borders. Just mindlink with the males and tell them to bring all the women and children up to the pack house. We'll put the house under lockdown just to be safe. I've been kind of selfish and have taken a few days off from Derek's case. I'll get right back onto that tomorrow. And maybe with Blood Moon's visit tomorrow you can have the pack on lockdown, but they can stay in their homes. Explain to everyone before the run tonight that these next few days are going to be dangerous and that as a pack we'll get through it together okay. I know you can lead us Nico, I'm sure of it."

Just as I finish my rant I notice how Nico's eyes are burning into me. His eyes slowly pool with liquid  and then start falling from his face. It takes me a minute to realize that he's crying.
