The entire research division is in a state of heightened alert. Nero, still unsettled by her earlier discovery about Tejima's changing Reiashi, finds herself at the forefront of the preparations.
As she enters the main lab, her team is already hard at work, but the atmosphere is tense.
The Void Dwellers, though mentioned in passing by some researchers, were never fully expected to manifest physically in their realm.
The dimensional barriers separating the realms were considered nearly impenetrable—at least until Tejima's strange abilities began to emerge.
Now, with the threat of one crossing over becoming a terrifying reality, every scientist and researcher is scrambling to prepare.
"Status report," Nero calls out, her voice commanding the room. A junior researcher quickly approaches her, tablet in hand, providing a quick rundown of what they've accomplished so far.
"We've initiated energy containment protocols across all research facilities," the researcher says, tapping on the tablet.
"Additionally, we've installed high-density Reiashi dampeners around the perimeter to prevent any sudden surges from destabilizing the dimensional walls."
Nero nods, but her mind is already elsewhere. She's worried these precautions won't be enough.
"A Void Dweller is not just some entity you can trap like an experiment; she thinks to herself.
It's a being that exists beyond our comprehension, capable of bending the fabric of reality. Can we really hope to contain it?"
As she continues to listen to the preparations, Nero pulls up her own data on the Void Dwellers.
What little they know about these creatures has been pieced together from fragments of old texts and recordings, most of them unreliable.
Their true nature remains shrouded in mystery, but what is certain is that their power is immeasurable. She feels a growing unease.
Every time she glances at Tejima's data, the connection between his growing powers and the approaching Void Dweller seems too close for comfort.
"We need to ramp up our defenses even further," Nero says firmly, interrupting the researcher.
"If this Void Dweller breaches our realm, there's no telling what kind of havoc it could wreak.
I want a team working on a contingency plan for a full-scale evacuation and double the surveillance on Tejima."
Her words send a ripple of anxiety through the room. The idea of an evacuation hadn't been seriously considered before. It was as if Nero had voiced the collective fear that everyone was too afraid to acknowledge.
Suddenly, the head of security enters the lab, his face grim.
"We've detected strange anomalies along the dimensional rift.
The Void energies are spiking, and they're getting stronger by the minute. We estimate that the Void Dweller could arrive in less than a week."
Nero's heart sinks. "A week?" That was less time than she had hoped for. She swallows her fear and tries to maintain her composure.
"Alright," she says, "we need to expedite everything. Increase the surveillance on the dimensional barrier and recalibrate the containment units.
Make sure that every Reiashi sensor is functioning at peak capacity. If anything, anything crosses over before we're ready, I want to know immediately."
The lab bursts into action, everyone moving with newfound urgency. Nero moves toward the observation deck, where she watches the digital readouts of Tejima's Reiashi patterns flicker and fluctuate.
