After first period, Yasmine made her way through her remaining four classes until lunch finally started. As she navigated the bustling cafeteria, she spotted Soreia sitting at the table with two boys and decided to walk over.

The first boy Kane, was wearing a black and red Hellstar shirt, black Purple jeans, and Jordan 12 "Red Taxis." The second boy, Hendrix, had on a black and sliver "In Uzi We Trust" cropped graphic tee, dark grey Purple jeans, and black and sliver ASICS Gel 1130s.

"Hey, girl!" Soreia greeted with a wide smile.

"Hey, how are you?" Yasmine replied, feeling a bit more comfortable now.

"I'm good!" This is my boyfriend, Kane and his aggravating-ass homeboy, Hendrix. This my new friend, Yasmine," Soreia introduced proudly.

"Yoo," Kane said, nodding in greeting.

Hendrix, with a mischievous grin, leaned forward. "You some fine shit, you gotta nigga, shawty?" he joked.

For the first time in a while, Yasmine laughed."Nah,I'm good, boo. Trust me, this ain't what you want."

Hendrix smirked."Shid,yes,it is."

"Boy,shut up. She don't want your ugly ass," Soreia said, rolling her eyes at him. Come sit down, Yasmine! You gotta tell me more about yourself, girl."

Yasmine smiled and sat down with them. She started sharing some basic things about herself, feeling surprisingly at ease. There was something about Soreia that made her feel like she could open up without hesitation.

In the middle of her conversation, Yasmine noticed Noah walking up to the table, casually dapping up Kane and Hendrix. She found herself staring longer than intended.

Soreia, quick to catch on, grinned slyly. "Ouu, bitch, you want Noah."

"Huh? Girl, no. I'm pretty sure he has a girlfriend," Yasmine said defensively, her face warming at the accusation.

"You mean Kataleya?" Soreia scoffed. "They're so toxic, girl. They break up every damn week. He needs something new in his life."

Yasmine shook her head. "Well, that's his problem. I'm focusing on myself right now."

"Okay, whatever you say," Soreia teased, "but I guarantee ya'll will be talking soon."

Yasmine raised an eyebrow. "We'll see."

Finally done with all her classes, Yasmine arrived home from school. As expected, the house was empty— her sister, Charlie, was out, as she was every day, partying her life away. Since their mother, Angela ,passed, life had been difficult for both of them.

Charlie coped by spending her nights out, drowning her pain in alcohol and distractions, while Yasmine spent hers locked away in her room, silently crying herself to sleep. The once-close bond between them had fractured. Now they were little more than strangers living under the same roof, their grief pulling them in opposite directions.
