Survivalism, a natural process resulting in the evolution of organisms best adapted to the environment, caused human beings to develop and make tools and machineries that enabled them to live a more advanced and comfortable life. With the aid of the natural ability of the human mind to conceive knowledge and change, science and technology has evolved into matters benificial in one way or another to living creatures in this planet.
But, questions remain unanswered. Will science and technological advancement bring forth positive results or the ultimate destruction of the earth's natural wealth in the years to come? Have we not learned from the past? Or should we deal with the present and prepare for the future?
Schools are providing the students from the basic to the most complicated ideas regarding science and mathematics, regarding each young mind as a vessel of learning and knowledge. The presence of modern technology makes learning far more easy as compared from the previous generations. Ideas, informations and concepts come quicker than the usual using mass media and the power of the internet. Learning has never been this fun. Just a click away more people could reach across the world and even to the universe and beyond. Communication is easy with the presence of social networking sites, mobile phones, and other devices, making people connect to each other and share profitable ideas.
Our way of living has changed tremendously. Transportation is faster and lighter making commerce and businesses prosper enabling people to get more jobs and earn much money to provide for families. The delivery of goods and services is faster and more convenient. The provision for the different sectors of the community including the educational system of countries has grown. Education becomes a necessity for everyone rich and poor alike. Science and mathematics are taught in schools providing the learners with needed intelligence to equip and prepare them for their future.
With these benefits provided by science and technology, at many times we neglect our duty and obligations in making sure that the earth is not endangered. We forget that the earth is the only planet where life is abundant and survival depends not on the discoveries and inventions but on its nature and its value. We choose not to protect it but to destroy and abuse it. Many times the earth is compromised with the peolple's need for advancement and technology. We so much depend on what we can get out of the natural wealth to sustain ease of living. We seldom replace what we got and used up, eventually leading to natural disasters and calamaties that in the end we all suffer.
With the dangers of devastation confronted by our planet, an abrupt twist of our wrong practices should be done. The advanced learning provided by the schools, and the development of our minds brought about by our need for ease and comfort should be reasons for us to protect our environment and maintain its beauty. The learnings we have gained from school should not lead us, pupils to adding up to the already problems of the environment.
Learning is a life-long pursuit for knowledge and human discoveries. May it only be that these discoveries be for the good and benefit of the human race and our planet.
