The vehicle was now filled with Little Jun's cries. Jennie sighed while Lisa threw a cold look at Jae.
"Oh no, Junie boy! Please don't cry!"
It took a couple of minutes before Hoyeon and Jae managed to calm Little Jun. Jae frantically sang nonsense songs and made funny faces just to make the toddler laugh again.
Finally, the SUV stopped in front of the Kim ancestral compound's massive gates.
"Whoa! Look at that!" Jae exclaimed. "It's like the setting from all those period dramas! Boss, this is your home?"
"No, it's not. It's my father's and will eventually become my elder brother's. The penthouse is my home, our home."
"Oh, right. Ehehe."
Hoyeon's eyes darkened as she looked at the towering walls and the massive gates. As a former bodyguard to Donghwi, she frequently entered the compound before.
They climbed out of the vehicle. Lisa's two subordinates took out the baby stroller and the presents from the trunk. Since this was Lisa's first time visiting, he prepared lavish presents for his future in-laws. He and Jae carried several big cloth bags containing numerous wrapped presents. There were so many that they had to put some on the stroller.
Hoyeon carried Little Jun in her arms. She looked very uneasy. It was obvious that she didn't want to let go of her baby. Jennie didn't rush her, waiting patiently until Hoyeon was ready.
Finally, everyone was ready to go. They were just waiting for Hoyeon to let go of Little Jun. They were standing in front of the gates for more than five minutes now, but no one rushed her. The gates were already open for them. A guard waited for them to enter.
Reluctantly, she handed Little Jun to Jennie.
"Please take care of him," she whispered.
"Of course," Jennie replied.
Hoyeon kissed her son's forehead before backing away to join Lisa's two subordinates.
"Mommi?"
Jennie shook a rattle, distracting the toddler. The group quickly entered the compound before Little Jun noticed that his mother wasn't coming with them.
Hoyeon watched as the gates closed. As a bodyguard, she always had firm control of her emotions. However, ever since giving birth, she noticed that she had become more emotional. She knew that she would see her son again tonight when they returned, yet she still couldn't stop the panicked feeling inside of her. It was the fear of losing her son, of him being taken away from her.
Giving one last look at the compound, Hoyeon and Lisa's two subordinates drove away back to the penthouse.
Inside the compound, Jae's head swivelled all around as he looked at everything. His loud and dramatic exclamations turned the quiet walk through the courtyards into an entertaining tour. Pushing the stroller loaded with the presents, Jae latched to the guard, asking him all sorts of questions about the place. The guard answered the hyperactive young man's questions to the best of his ability.
They frequently stopped to take photos. Of course, the role of photographer was dumped on the guard. At first, the guard was reluctant and only snapped photos using Jae's phone out of duty because of Jennie's presence. But somewhere along the way, he got infected by Jae and became a loud chatterbox as well.
Jennie and Lisa walked behind the talkative duo. She carried Little Jun in her arms while Lisa carried several bags of presents.
"Papa!" Little Jun called out, reaching his short little arms towards Lisa.
"I think he wants you to carry him," Jennie said.
"I can't. I'm carrying the presents," he replied.
"I'll carry them."
"No," Lisa quickly rejected her idea. "These are heavy."
Little Jun continued to struggle in Jennie's arms, crying for Lisa. Sighing, she called Jae and the guard to take the bags from Lisa. Despite Lisa's protests, she pushed the toddler into his arms.
Lisa looked stiff and unnatural carrying Little Jun, but the toddler didn't notice. Little Jun laid his adorable little head on his Papa's shoulder, snuggling against him. Although Jennie felt softer, Lisa was wider and sturdier. Little Jun liked being carried by both of them.
Of course, Jae wouldn't let this chance pass by. He snatched his phone from the guard and snapped several photos of Lisa carrying Little Jun.
Jennie carried one cloth bag because Lisa wouldn't allow her to carry more. It was also the lightest. The rest were carried by the guard and dumped on the stroller by Jae.
They finally reached the main wing of the residence. The old chamberlain welcomed them. Despite his decades of training, the chamberlain still couldn't hide the trace of shock from showing on his face as soon as he laid eyes on Lisa Manoban carrying a toddler. He instantly recognized the President-CEO of Manoban Corporation.
However, he didn't serve the Kims for such a long time for nothing. He quickly readjusted his expression and called for some servants to help carry the many bulky bags. Then he led everyone through the big doors.
Once inside, they saw Jihoon, Donghwi, Jia and Alice waiting for them at the entrance hall.
"Twin bro!"
"Twin sis!"
Wonjae and Alice ran towards each other and the chatter instantly started.
Jennie hooked her hand on Lisa's arm. He was still carrying Little Jun. She led him forward.
"Hello, Father, Aunt Jia, Elder Brother. Let me introduce you to my boyfriend, Lisa Manoban."
Lisa shifted Little Jun to one arm and extended his other arm to shake their hands. "Hello. Father-in-law, nice to see you again. Aunt Jia, nice to meet you. Elder Brother Hwi, good to see you. We've met before at some occasions."
Everyone's minds went blank at the way he addressed the three. Jihoon and Jia looked awkward. Donghwi's eyes and mouth opened in shock and disbelief. Even Jennie was taken aback.
Did he just call Jihoon "Father-in-law"? Calling Jia "Aunt" was within propriety so it was still acceptable. But what about calling Donghwi "Elder Brother"? Was he serious?
