I was stood waiting for the pain to subside when a Dr came into the room.
"Mrs Urie, why are you out of bed?" She asked.
"It's more comfortable like this. There is no pressure on anywhere. It speeds labour up as well and makes birth easier. Gravity."
"I am a Dr, so I think I know best. Let's get you into bed and get you monitored." The Dr tried to guide me back to the bed. Brendon came back into the room.
"B......" I said. Brendon had to advocate for me right now because another contraction was taking hold.
"Genna doesn't want to get into bed. She wants an active birth." He said and took hold of me and guided me to a birthing ball. I sat, and he rubbed my back. Our midwife, Nancy, had stepped out for a few minutes. The contractions were coming thick and fast. There was barely any gap between them now. I had been in labour for 4 hours, so far.
My waters broke at home, just as I was taking the groceries out of the car. Brendon was in his studio. I went and got him. I was calm and serene as I had my hospital bag by the door along with the baby's car seat. Brendon grabbed the car keys, kissed me, and off we went.
Nancy came back into the room.
"How are you doing?" She asked as I came out of a contraction.
"There's shorter gaps between now." I said.
"Ok, let's check you then." I got onto the bed, and Nancy examined me. "You are nearly fully dilated. You should start feeling pressure soon." I nodded and got off the bed. Brendon put my music on, and we slowly danced to Close to you by The Carpenters. It was helping get rid of the little bit of cervix that needed to go so our daughter could be born. We swayed and sang along. The on call Dr came in again. She wanted me in bed again. She nearly exploded when she saw me and Brendon dancing.
"I feel pressure, Nancy." I said. Brendon rubbed my back. "B, keep dancing. It helps."
"Ok, with the next contraction, you need to push, Ok?" I nodded as the next contraction came. I pushed and pushed. Nancy was underneath me. "That's great, Genna. Keep it going." I stopped and had a small rest. Brendon gave me a sip of water.
"You are doing so good, baby." He said. "I love you."
"I love-." I needed to push again. So I did.
"Wonderful, Genna. Baby's head is nearly there. The next contraction and head will be crowning."
"You hear that, Gen? She's nearly here." I nodded. Then another vice like pain gripped me. I pushed again, and then her head was ready to be born. Brendon had a look, and he was crying.
"She has your hair Gen." Brendon said. I sobbed a little, and then I was ready to push again. Nancy got me to push then pant, so I didn't tear. Then, our babys head was born. The baby turned around, and before I knew it, I was pushing her body out into my waiting arms. She cried, and I hugged her to me. I was on my knees at the point. I placed her under my t-shirt to keep her warm and skin on skin contact. Brendon knelt with me, crying and kissing her head. He kissed me. The placenta was delivered, and Brendon cut the cord. He took his shirt off, and he had skin to skin with her whilst I was helped up and into the bathroom. I had a shower and got some fresh pjs on. I got into bed, and Brendon handed me our tiny daughter. She had a nappy and a hat on now. I swaddled her in her own pink blanket that we bought in Portsmouth Primark. Nancy came in to get the babies details.
"Chloe Elizabeth Urie. 7lbs 4oz.
Born November 5th." Nancy wrote it on the little card that was in her cot. Chloe looked like she needed feeding. I lifted my pj top, and she latched on straightaway. She certainly takes after Brendon when it comes to eating. Brendon went outside to call his parents and mine. Mum and Dad were at California Disney land today.
"Your parents are on their way." Brendon said, coming back into the room. I nodded as I looked at our daughter. I couldn't decide who she looked like most yet. Brendon stroked Chloes head gently and then placed a kiss on her.
"Look what we did, Genna. Look what we made."
"I know." I said, crying again.

2 days later, we brought Chloe home. Mum and Dad were besotted with her. Brendons parents were going to come and visit in a few days once I was healing properly from the birth. I wasn't really sore anyway. I was just tired.
I napped with Chloe. She was in a moses basket in our bedroom. Mum and Dad were only too happy to help as well. Brendon came upstairs when I was napping. Mum had Chloe. She was changing her nappy and was giving her a bottle of breastmilk.
Brendon got on the bed with me and slipped an arm around my waist. I smiled and snuggled into his embrace. He kissed me behind my earlobe. Never in a million years did I think my life would end up like this. I sighed with happiness, turning around to look at my gorgeous husband.
