The grand hall of Wysteria Academy buzzed with anticipation as elite witches and wizards gathered for the annual Welcome Feast. Candles flickered, casting a warm glow over the esteemed guests, their laughter blending with the soft hum of magic. I stood nervously against the wall, my long, curly brown hair cascading down my back, feeling out of place among such powerful figures. I was a half-blood, and the weight of that identity pressed heavily on me.

Then I saw him—Carter Prince. He stood tall, a picture of confidence and authority, with dark hair that seemed perfectly tousled and piercing blue eyes scanning the room. My heart raced when his gaze landed on me. I felt exposed, my cheeks flushing as I instinctively shrank back, hoping to become invisible.

For a moment, time froze as our eyes met. I was captivated by the spark of curiosity in his gaze, but I quickly looked away, fearing his judgment. Why would someone like him notice me? High-borns usually looked down on those of my kind. I needed to remain hidden, especially with my scholarship at stake.
