Back in my room, I focused on my studies, determined to prove I belonged here. Just as I settled in, a knock at the door made me jump. "Come in," I called, my voice cautious.

To my surprise, it was Carter, grinning like a cat that had caught a mouse. "So, you're the half-blood who's got everyone talking," he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

I stood tall, though my heart raced. "I was told to stay clear of you," I replied, trying to keep my tone firm.

Carter chuckled, stepping closer. "Ah, Headmistress Arthurleya's warnings, I presume? Don't worry, I'm not here to cause trouble... yet. I just wanted to introduce myself properly. You're quite the mystery, Clair."

Before I could respond, he leaned in slightly, his expression shifting to something more serious. "Meet me in the library tonight at midnight. Come alone."

With that, he turned and left, leaving me breathless, my mind swirling with questions.
