"And every girl I ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news
You called them crazy, God, I hate the way I called them crazy too
You're so convincing
How do you lie without flinching?"

Well, to say the rest of the weekend was surely the most awkward time of my life.

Why, you may ask? Because every single duo activity, we had to do it together.

———-

Canoeing.

Everyone paired up, leaving me and Rafe as the only ones without partners.

Without a word or even a glance in my direction, Rafe sits in the canoe, waiting. Naturally, being my petty self, I do the same.

We start paddling in silence.

That is, until I—being the genius I am—claim I saw a shark. In a lake.

I swear I did.

"Rafe! Rafe! Go to the right! Go to the right!" I yell, panicking as I frantically paddle—if that's what you even call it—trying to turn us to the right.

Rafe lets out a small grin. "You're going left."

I pause for a moment, my eyes widening in realization before I dramatically start paddling the other way.

Rafe grips the side of the canoe, his voice growing frustrated. "Aurora, there is no shark, for the love of God. This is a lake!"

The canoe starts wobbling dangerously as I continue my panic-driven paddling.

"Aurora, we're going to tip over. Stop!" he says, exasperated.

But of course, I don't stop. In fact, I paddle even more wildly, and despite Rafe's attempts to calm me down, it's too late.

"Aurora!" he shouts, just as I manage to flip the canoe entirely, plunging us both into the water.

Well, that happened.

"We're both drenched now," I say, laughing at my own joke.

Rafe gives me a deadpan look before flipping the canoe back over with ease.

I can't help but notice his arms. His muscles. His hands—

"You're impossible," he mutters, shaking his head. "Now we have to swim back to shore. And I'll be dragging the canoe."

"I was waiting for the 'please,'" I joke, still floating in the water, not entirely believing he expects me to swim all the way back.

"What are you waiting for now, then?" He asks, seeing as I don't move from my spot.

I sheepishly smile.

Rafe puts me in the canoe and starts swimming, pushing both me and the canoe back to shore.
