The summer sun glaring and warming up Heathrow as we land is the only positive aspect of our early morning flight today. The humidity in the UK makes me miss LA and our home but nevertheless I have missed my family. Thankfully due to my planning, the airport is half empty with only a few fans spotting us under our combination of hats and sunglasses. With effortless security and baggage claim, Billie and I made it out of the arrivals gate in miraculous timing. We join hands and pull our luggage in the direction of my family's Range Rover, my mum text us that she'd parked in the closest garage, with the persuasion of the expenses being covered by me, of course.
"My girls" Her voice echos through the structure as my mum spots my girlfriend and I walking towards her. Her arms are held out wide for us to both walk into allowing for her to hug both of us.
"I've missed you both" her grin is uncontrollably taking over her face and I cannot help but smile in return."I've missed you too mum" I reply bringing her in for an individual embrace. I hear the click of a camera, instantly making my head swivel until I come to the realisation that Billie was capturing this sweet moment. The love I have for both her and my family is unmeasurable.
"Thank you for picking us up" Billie says
"Oh it's no problem darling, Florence is dying to see you both she barely made it to school today" the voices between their conversation become muffled as they climb into the car shutting the doors, meanwhile I'm left to load the luggage into the boot. I slide into the backseat listening to the effortless conversation between the women in the front, Billie is updating my mum on her months on tour while apologising for the lack of contact. I'm aware that she'd updated my mum on a number of occasions about tour and I'm surprised my mum never became suspicious of how we didn't talk about each other but ultimately I'm grateful. Pulling out my phone, I text the boys letting them know we've arrived and reply to a few more important messages.
If there is one pet peeve I have about my mum it's the way she drives like she has an extra life. She'd almost taken out several cars on the way to this cafe. Graciously the staff gave us a secluded table near the back in hopes that we have a normal uninterrupted meal. As we stare into the menu I hear my mum cough lightly to grab the tables attention.
"So daughter tell me what you've been doing"
"I've been texting you almost every day mother" I reply in a rather sarcastic tone
"I know but the whole car journey you didn't talk so the floor is yours" she says matching my tone playfully
"Well after my tour and all the press we had some time off. Then of course I was sad about Billie leaving me... Emma had the baby too. So for Blue Moon I've been writing and recording a lot"
"So you're working on an album?" Billie questions making my mum give her a slight look that hinted confusion
"Yeah" I smile back hoping that my mums expression meant nothing. "What are you gonna get bills?" Changing the subject I also place my hand on her thigh, rubbing it lightly
Billie replies prompting us to call over the waiter and place our orders. Waiting for the food sparks new conversation about the rehearsal dinner for the wedding. I'm not sure why mums need to know every detail but Billie and I have no problem explaining.
The meal was definitely worth the flight, if there one thing I can praise London for it's their bougie cafe breakfasts even Billies vegan wrap was incredible. Billie courteously payed the bill, in her words making it equal for my mum picking us up. As soon as we entered my childhood home, Billie and I showered and went straight to sleep. Even though it's only a 3 hour flight, let's just say we used our last night to make up these few days of practically being celibate.
