Opening
---------------------------Emily is sitting on an old swing in the playground of their childhood park, a place full of memories. The sun is low, casting long shadows across the ground. The swings creak gently in the breeze.
The park is quiet, almost deserted, and Emily feels a deep sense of longing. She’s holding a small, worn-out locket that Jack gave her when they were kids.
As Emily opens the locket and looks at the tiny photo of them as children, memories come flooding back. This playground was where they spent countless hours together, playing and dreaming about the future. Her mind drifts back to the day they first met as kids, and the scene transitions into the past.
============Flashback============
The sun is setting, casting a golden hue over the park. Jack, a ten-year-old boy with tousled brown hair and red, puffy eyes, is sitting alone on a bench, clutching a small toy in his hands. He’s trying to hold back tears, but they keep slipping out.Emily, a bright-eyed girl with a friendly smile, notices him from a distance. She hesitates for a moment, then walks over and sits down beside him.
Emily: (gently)“Hi. I’m Emily. What’s your name?”
Jack: (barely looking up, his voice shaky)
“Jack.”Emily:“Hi, Jack. Are you okay?”
Jack: (shakes his head, tears welling up again)
“No… no, I’m not.”Emily: (softly, scooting closer)
“Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes talking makes things a little better.”Jack: (sniffles, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand)
“My… my mom and dad… they’re not together anymore. They got divorced. Now, everything’s different. My dad doesn’t live with us, and my mom… she’s always sad. No one talks to me about it. No one even asks how I feel…”Emily: (eyes wide with understanding, her heart aching for him)
“That sounds really hard. I’m sorry, Jack.”Jack: (voice breaking)
“I just want things to go back to the way they were. But they won’t… they can’t. And now I feel… so alone.”Emily: (places a hand on his shoulder, her voice tender and full of sincerity)
“You’re not alone, Jack. I’m here. And… if you want, we can be friends. I’ll talk to you whenever you want, and we can play together. You don’t have to feel alone anymore.”Jack: (looks at her, his eyes searching for some comfort, some hope)
“Really? You’d want to be my friend?”Emily: (smiles warmly)
“Of course I do. Everyone needs a friend, especially when things are tough. We can hang out here every day after school, if you want. I’ll listen, and we can talk about whatever you like—or nothing at all. Sometimes, just sitting together is enough.”Jack: (his tears slow, a small, grateful smile forming on his lips)
“Thank you, Emily. I… I’d really like that.”Emily: (nods, her voice full of quiet strength)
“Good. It’s a promise then. You don’t have to be alone, Jack. Not anymore.”Jack: (takes a deep breath, feeling a bit lighter)
“Okay. I… I think I’m going to be okay now. Thanks for talking to me, Emily.”Emily: (stands up, holding out her hand to him)
“Come on, let’s go swing for a while. We can think about happy things. I’m really good at making up stories, and I bet we can come up with something fun together.”Jack: (hesitates, then takes her hand, feeling a warmth in his chest he hasn’t felt in a long time)
“Yeah… that sounds nice.”They went to play games and they hang out together
