Luca's breath caught in his throat as he watched the police officers approach the wreckage. His heart pounded in his chest, a mix of dread and relief. Alex was dead, but Raya's fate remained uncertain.
The paramedics worked frantically to extricate Raya from the wreckage, their faces etched with concern. Luca stood by, his eyes fixed on Raya's motionless form. He prayed silently, his heart heavy with sorrow.
After what seemed like an eternity, the paramedics managed to free Raya from the car. They laid her on a stretcher and began to assess her injuries. Luca's breath quickened as he watched them work.
A doctor approached Luca, her face grave. "I'm afraid she's not going to make it," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
Luca's world seemed to crumble around him. He sank to his knees, tears streaming down his face. He reached out and took Raya's hand, his fingers tracing the delicate lines of her fingers.
"No," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "No, please."
But Raya didn't respond. Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was shallow.
Luca held her hand tightly, his heart aching with pain. He held onto her hand, hoping against hope that she would somehow return to him.
As the paramedics loaded Raya into the ambulance, Luca followed, his eyes filled with tears. He watched them drive away, a wave of despair washing over him.
Luca's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts as he followed the ambulance to the hospital. He replayed the events of the past few hours, searching for a way to change the outcome. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't see any other path.
The hospital was a blur of activity as the paramedics rushed Raya into the emergency room. Luca pushed through the crowd, his eyes fixed on the double doors. He could hear the frantic voices of the medical staff, the beeping of machines.
His heart pounded in his chest as he waited. Every second felt like an eternity. He paced back and forth, his hands trembling. He couldn't lose Raya now, not after everything they had been through.
Finally, a doctor emerged from the emergency room. Her face was grave, and her eyes held a hint of sadness.
"Mr. Grey?" she asked, her voice soft.
Luca nodded, his voice barely a whisper. "Yes, that's me."
The doctor took a deep breath. "I'm afraid I have some bad news."
Luca's voice was a hoarse whisper as he pleaded with the heavens. His eyes were tightly closed, his fists clenched. He felt a wave of despair wash over him, a deep, aching emptiness that threatened to consume him.
He thought of all the happy memories they had shared, the laughter, the love. He couldn't imagine a world without her.
"Please," he repeated, his voice barely audible. "Let her be okay."
Stephy's heart pounded in her chest as she approached Luca. Her voice was trembling as she called out his name.
"Luca," she cried, her eyes filled with tears. "What happened? Where's Raya?"
Luca turned to face her, his eyes filled with sadness. He took a deep breath, his voice barely a whisper.
"Raya... she's inside," he said, his voice filled with grief.
Stephy's world seemed to crumble around her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Raya was gone? How could this be?
"No," she cried, her voice rising. "No, it can't be true."
