The loud voices echoed throughout the base kitchen, as the clicks and clacks of the silverware faintly ringed in the distance. Chris cut into his bagel with a plastic knife, as he slowly slid it down towards the table.

"Did you guys hear about Jack?" James asked the group before he bit into his bagel.

Chris and Peter looked up in concern. "No, what's goin' on with Jack?" Chris replied.

"Well, I heard he's back, apparently." James answered, as he chewed his food. "I guess someone saw him all cut up without his uniform."

Chris gently dropped his forearms on the table and raised his eyebrow, then said, "No kiddin'."

James nodded his head. "Yeah, dude. I heard it looked real brutal too." He responded before he took another bite. "I wouldn't be surprised if he had to get stitches for some of them."

"He'll be fine, bro." Rick sarcastically chimed in. "I'm sure his rich ass can pay it off anyway."

"Watch him get discharged right after he gets out of the hospital." Brandon joked, while he scooped a piece of cream cheese from his knife. "That shit would be so funny to watch."

Chris snickered, as he chewed, then James chimed in, "Only one can hope."

Peter placed his hand over his stomach, scrunching his fingers up and down, while he looked over at Chris. "I think I need to go to the bathroom." He said.

"Do you know where it is?" Chris calmly asked. Peter then shook his head, as Chris sighed and looked over at his buddies and said, "Hey, I gotta go take care of some business with this fella over here." He pointed his thumb over to Peter. "I'll be back."

As Chris and Peter stood up from their chairs, Rick jokingly replied, "Yeah, yeah. Try no to break a nail on your way back."

Chris rolled his eyes and flipped Rick off, while the rest of the group chuckled. He and Peter walked out of the cafeteria and into the hallway, then Chris asked Peter, "Let me guess, diarrhea again?"

"I don't know." Peter responded, as he clenched his stomach. "I think I might be getting some sort of gut feeling, but... I'm not sure if my nervous system is causing that."

"Gut feeling?" Chris gave Peter a look of confusion.

Peter turned his head and blankly stared at Chris. "You know, come to think of it, I think it might have something to do with you guys talking about Jack." He explained.

Chris' confused expression turned into concern, then asked, "You don't actually think Jack might show up here, right."

"Well, it's a possibility." Peter answered, while he shrugged.

"Listen, Peter." Chris said, as he placed his hand on his shoulder. The two men then stopped in the middle of the hallway to face each other. "If we ever run into Jack in this place, just find one of the Sergeants, so we can lock his ass up."

Peter jokingly gave Chris a salute, and replied, "Roger that, Captain."

"And let's not keep our guard down." Chris continued, then looked around, while the two started to walk around the corner. "You never know what kinda think he'll pu-"

"What do you mean I'm getting discharged?" Jack yelled across the hall, as Chris and Peter ducked behind the wall and saw Jack standing in front of the Sergeants.

"Listen, Davis!" Sergeant Jefferson raised his voice in frustration. "You haven't shown up in three days. In a row, and they're all no-show, no call." Chris and Peter peeked their heads around the corner and laid their eyes on the three, as Sergeant continued, "Every time we try and reach out, you haven't answered back. I mean for Christ's sake, Davis, we've all been worried sick about you. Look, I don't know if you know this, but you were just on the news and now the whole town knows about it."
