🗝️ soo-jin's pov:
"this was a stupid idea.'' i muttered as i slowly banged my head against the door. completely pessimistic and tired, i let my head hang down and stared at the floor.
''stop with the dramatic gestures. we still have two more clients ahead of us; maybe they'll know something.'' vincenzo said, trying to cheer me up. he stepped behind me and began to look around the hallway. wait a minute—was he just being nice to me? i could hardly believe my luck as i slowly raised my head to look at him. every time i saw his face, i was reminded of just how handsome he really was. his defined facial features perfectly complemented his slightly rounder cheeks and elegant eyes. i quickly tried to push those thoughts about him out of my head. i just couldn't allow myself to think that way about him!
since his comment this afternoon, i hadn't spoken a word to him. even when he tried in vain to get me to talk, i had just given him the cold shoulder. he got the hint and didn't try again. the only exchanges we had after that were small remarks about our clients or a bit of role-playing to make our act more convincing. i didn't have a problem with that, and apparently, neither did he.
he looked at me too, his expression as monotone as ever.
those eyes—
''maybe you're right.'' i said, trying to motivate myself a little before stepping back and softly touching my forehead. annoyed, i rummaged through my bag and pulled out a small hand mirror. the spot where i had just banged my head against the door was now slightly red. i began desperately trying to pat some makeup over it to blend it in, but the redness wouldn't go away. frustrated, i tried a few more times before giving up and giving the door one last annoyed tap with my head.
great.
just great.
''it's not as noticeable as you think.'' vincenzo spoke again, looking at my forehead. he absentmindedly raised his hand and started to move it towards my forehead, but then quickly pulled it back, clearing his throat awkwardly when he realized what he was doing. i looked at him, puzzled, and closed the mirror, putting it back in my bag.
''if you say so.'' i murmured one last time before adjusting my hair and mentally preparing myself to knock on two more doors. we'd been questioning people for two hours already and hadn't discovered anything new, which was starting to frustrate me. having him as my companion wasn't making it any easier, but at this point i didn't have a choice. if i wanted to get my little brother back, i had to push through. besides, this was just the beginning of my mission, and i still had a lot ahead of me.
with a bit more motivation this time, i slowly knocked on the door and silently prayed that at least the next person would have some information that could help us, so we wouldn't leave empty-handed.

''fantastic. that was absolutely useless, and all we did was waste three hours of my life.'' i said sarcastically, looking at my watch and then up at the sky. the sun had long since set, and darkness filled the sky. i took a deep breath, trying not to get too upset. annoyed, i pulled out my car keys and was about to get in when vincenzo snapped me out of my thoughts.
''do you really think that was all useless?'' he said, adjusting his striped tie. i turned around, puzzled, and looked at him. he didn't seem too pleased with our results either, which only confused me more.
''well, considering we learned absolutely nothing and three people we talked to refused to say a word, yes, it does feel pretty useless.'' i explained to him. i had imagined the day would be much more productive, but the only things i'd accomplished today were annoying mr. hong and arguing with vincenzo three times in an hour. the first point wasn't even intentional, and it left me feeling a bit sad.
