IN SCHOOL, HAYEON AND CHAEWON WEREN'T associated with each other. It was that cliché that jocks and musical theatre students don't mix.
Hayeon was known in school as the leader of the basketball team, even though she was always overshadowed by the star player, Lynn. Everyone knew her name and everyone fawned over her and everyone wanted to be her friend so desperately.
Chaewon, on the other hand, was known as a theatre student, who only hung around the stairs by the cafeteria with her small group of friends. People only knew her face, not her name.
However, behind all of this lay a secret. A secret that was only kept between the two. The short glances and the long ones, too.
There was a time that Hayeon had managed to make Chaewon's heart flutter with a bold and impactful flirtation. It was only for a minute, but it seemed to change a lot of things between the two.
"Watch out, your shoelaces are untied!" Called out a basketball player, mockingly, towards Chaewon who only stood by her locker, minding her own business.
"Don't want you tripping over your pathetic little ego, now, do we?" Another snickered as they walked away in a bundle of laughter.
Hayeon, who was walking from behind the pack, stopped and turned her head towards Chaewon. She wore a huge maroon varsity jacket with the school logo on the back, baggy basketball shorts and a black cap on her head.
She bent down towards Chaewon and gently pulled at the laces of girl's boots, tying them into bows.
She stood up and winked at her, "Audacity must be on sale this year." She smiled, taking off the cap from her head and placing it onto Chaewon's, "Chin up, babe. I have a feeling your ego won't trip you. Perhaps it'll give you hope." She said before walking off with a small wave of her hand.
Chaewon just stood there with the black cap laying squint on her head. She adjusted it so it dropped down and covered half of her blushing face.
For weeks, Hayeon discreetly waved at Chaewon whenever she could. And when she couldn't, she offered smiles and silly faces.
It was strange, Chaewon thought. Before, the girl had never payed any mind towards her. But now... It was like she was the only one that was allowed to see these little gestures. It made her feel a little warm inside.
There were other times when they even met up between classes or before or after school, just to flirt or share a kiss.
It was sweet and they both enjoyed it, but Chaewon always felt like there was something missing. She wanted just a little more than what they already had.
