Ballet

"You what?"

"I want to join ballet."

"Are you sure? What if the one guy-"

"He's in ballet too and offered me lessons."

"Oh- that's wonderful kiddo, just sign up when you drop her off tomorrow"

I nod, this is all going according to plan. I finally get to see him more often! I walk upstairs to my room and turn my lamp off before leaping into bed. Tomorrow will be the best day of my life.

When I woke up everything was alright, I managed to get my sister to ballet early so I could sign the papers for ballet, and I was able to get started that day! I notice Jarrald practicing and looking around, and then he waves, and calls me over.

"Hey Jeffy glad you made it-"

I was about to answer when someone says something

"Jarrald! His name is Jeffrey- quit making random nicknames! You know how it makes me feel!"

"Right- I know Lillian...."

Is that the one girl...that obsesses over him? There's no way they're dating....right?

"Are you two...dating?"

"Yeah.. not by choi-"

"Yep! We just love each other. Don't we Jarrald?"

"...Yeah"

Great...his parents probably have something to do with this, girl after girl they assign him to, this has got to be the worst one yet. Lilith always wants money, so of course she feels like she has the jackpot right now I'm sure. Plus she's obsessive and hates when he addresses anyone by a silly nickname, if he doesn't say their normal name, she throws a fit...so then he has to give her money to shut her up.

"Anyways Jarrald. We are dancing partners again...right?"

"Yeah...but I was thinking-"

"Perfect! Wait what?"

"Well I thought since Jeffy- I mean Jeffrey is new, I'd partner with him this year..."

"What?! No but- she always assigns us together!"

"We'll see what she decides this year."

I watch as Lilith storms off, finding a seat with the other girls as they wait for who gets assigned with who. Jeffrey and Jarrald take a seat by each other and wait patiently on the partner assigner, Mrs. Sheen tells them who is with who, as she decides while sitting there.

"Hm...we'll have to partner two boys this year...for a special performance this year."

I watch as she lays her eyes on us two and then looks back at her papers.

"But first I'll announce the other groups"

As we sit there listening as she assigns everyone I listen carefully as I hear Lillian's name..

"Lillian and Jackson"

"What?! I have to be with Jarrald Mrs. Sheen!"

"I assign who I assign. You need someone at a lower level with you for once. You can barely keep up with Jarrald's flexibility."

The room falls silent as I watch Mrs. Sheen clears her throat and finishes off the list and then she smiles softly.

"Now then, for the two boys I will have working together, I want Jarrald and Jeffrey to work together. I understand the ballet gap, but I've seen Jeffrey help train his sister, and she's about the same level as Jarrald."

Out of the corner of my eye, Lilians jaw is dropped and she looks her maddest I've ever seen.

"Everyone is dismissed to their partner rooms, you'll find the names on the doors."

Jarrald stands up quickly and takes my hand to get to our partner room quickly.

"I don't wanna be there much longer for Lilians fumes."

"Me neither."

We make it to the room and look for our new outfits and put them on before looking at our parts.
