"I have a tennis tournament today—can you come?" Eriks voice crackled through the receiver of the phone. Laurie twirled the cord around her finger.

"Yeah, I'll be there. I have a concert tonight, you coming?"

"I wouldn't miss it for anything."

Laurie laughed. "How about you bring that little girlfriend of yours?" She suggested, taking a bite out of the biscuit she had baked for herself.

"Rose? She's out of town—she had a tourney this weekend."

"Bummer." Laurie said with a mouth full of biscuit.

"I'll talk to you later—Dad is on my ass right now."

"Adios." Laurie said and Erik said bye before hanging up. Just because his older brother broke her heart, doesn't mean she didn't love the company of Erik.

While she was getting ready for the tournament, she struggled to find the perfect outfit to encapsulate "hot ex girlfriend." Just incase she were to see Lyle.

She drove herself over to the so called "stadium" where the game would take place.

She walked in, sporting a cherry red tank top and denim jean shorts. She had a black leather belt looped through her jeans belt loops. White Adidas and socks that went just a little pass her ankles. And of course, a black Prada purse.

She strutted inside, feeling like the hottest woman to ever exist. She found her seat in the bleachers.

She didn't feel awkward alone. She enjoyed being by herself. The company of someone else was never something she desired like others. But she'd be flat out lying if she said she didn't miss the company of a certain brunette. And she wished he was there. She had scanned the crowd for him, only to be nowhere in sight. Her heart ached for him.

She caught sight of Erik. Nice white shirt, nice white shorts, and white wrist sweatbands and a white sweatband. He was warming up, swinging balls to the other side of the court like it was nothing.

He stopped for a moment, appearing out of breath as he walked facing the crowd to retrieve his water.

His eyes flicked up, and he caught Laurie's eye. He looked up at her with a big goofy smile, and he waved. She laughed quietly to herself before waving back.

He was so caught up in waving at her that when the ball girl was tossing the balls back, one knocked him right in the side of the head.

Laurie snorted, her hand slapping over her mouth. He rubbed his head and spared Laurie an embarrassed glance before walking back.

The math began shortly after. Erik wasn't doing too hot. But nonetheless, Laurie cheered for him.

A man with a thick accent yelled, and stormed down onto the court. He screamed at Erik, causing Laurie to frown. At first, she assumed it was his coach. Only until Erik muttered "Dad."

Laurie's frown deepened. The match was over and Erik lost. She couldn't find him as she walked out to the parking lot.

She got into her car with a defeated sigh, putting her key into the ignition. Right as she was getting ready to pull out, a banging on her passenger window caused her to yelp.

It was Erik. Sweaty and gross from his match.

"Jesus Christ!"

She reached over, cranking her window down.

"Unlock the door stupid!" He yelled at her as the window was barely down.

She scoffed in disbelief before unlocking her car door.

He jumped in and she pulled out of the parking lot.

"Call me stupid again, you little fucking shit and see where you end up." She threatened as she made her way onto the highway.

"Look, I'm sorry." He said through pants.

She glanced at him.

"My Dad is gonna slaughter me. Can you take me to Lyle's condo?" While keeping her eyes on the road, she dug out her sunglasses from her center console before flipping them onto her face.

"Yeah, I guess."

Erik let out a sigh of relief. "You are a lifesaver. Thank you."

Laurie mumbled an annoyed "You're welcome" as she continued on with her drive.

"What time is your concert tonight?" He asked her.

"It'll start around seven. Be there at six for good seats—had like a thousand people show up last show." She said, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.

"Well it'll be one thousand and one tonight." Laurie gave him a tight smile.

When she pulled into the driveway, Lyle was in the front yard already.

He was closer to Erik's side. He began walking over, not able to see who was driving. And well, Laurie never drove her car. He always drove her. Her car was always in her parking garage that came with the apartment complex.

She leaned over so Lyle could see her.

She had a mischievous smile on her face as she gave him a little wave. He stopped, not expecting to see Laurie.

He threw up his hand, the only sign of acknowledgment he could bear to give her.

"Thanks for the ride, Laurie." Erik said, trying to break the tension.

"Anytime, Erik." She said knowingly as he got out. When Erik walked by Lyle, Lyle patted him on the shoulder.

And Laurie felt her stomach drop as he walked over to her car. Her window still remained down from Erik's previous shenanigans.

He leaned down on her car, his arms folded over each other as he peered at her through his own sunglasses.

"Where's your girl?" She asked, the smile remaining on her face.

"Inside."

Laurie let out a laugh of disbelief. In the almost two months they spent together—hooking up or not—she never went inside his apartment. She only knew the way due to him driving there because he had forgotten something time to time.

"Well, you two crazy kids have fun—"

"Don't drive my brother over here again." Lyle said, cutting her off.

She cocked her head, her smile disappearing and a look of disbelief coming over her face.

"Your brother asked me for a ride."

"I don't care. Don't do it again."

She scoffed again. "Your Dad just screamed at him in front of a crowd of at least a thousand people. Have some fucking sympathy and realize why he wouldn't want to go home after that."

Then she moved her gearshift out of park, and as Lyle moved away, she sped out of his driveway, a screech coming from how fast she pulled out and ultimately leaving tire marks in his driveway.
