A/N: during this chapter i strongly advise you listen to the song this book is named after!! "Picture You" by Chappell Roan!!!
Laurie's show was the same night. She put on a sparkly dress that used to belong to her mother—who she no longer spoke to—and knee high black boots. She curled her blonde hair and did her makeup.
She'd be debuting a new song that night. A new one called "Picture you." Which was totally not targeted towards the man she broke it off with nearly a week prior.
She did the same thing she always did when she came on that stage. She'd wave, and talk to the crowd a little bit.
She spotted Erik in the crowd that night. And she saw the devil incarcerated in the crowd too, with his spunky, bubbly and outgoing girlfriend.
Girlfriend.
He knew her for one week and he already put a label on that.
He knew Laurie for two months and couldn't even fathom calling her his own. Anger pooled in her stomach as her hands balled into fists.
"I actually wanted to surprise everyone here tonight. I have a new song for you. Would you like to hear it?"
Once the crowd cheered and screamed, the beginning of "Picture You" began.
"Draw the blinds, light every candle
Slip off my pretty dress down my chest when I think of you
Every night, both lips on the mirror
It's ritualistic, counting lipstick stains where you should be."Laurie stared into Lyle's eyes, wanting him to feel every word of the song.
"Oh, I need you around
I'm getting close now."Lyle felt his cheeks heating up at the words coming from Laurie's mouth.
"Is this song about you?" Jamie asked him, right in his ear so he could for sure hear her.
She sounded pissed. Lyle looked at her. Her eyebrows furrowed and all.
"No—No. I told you we didn't do anything!" He yelled over the excessively loud music. Laurie's beautiful voice sang out into a melody. He felt entranced as he looked back up at her. He stared up at her, the stage lights about her being a mix of pink, purple, dark blue and red. Her voice captivated him like a sirens song.
"You asshole!" Jamie smacked him in the chest, before running away.
"Jamie!" He yelled, watching her run away. She half turned around, her lips in a pout as she continued to walk very fast away.
"We never fucked!" He yelled, his arms slapping against his sides in defeat.
Laurie finished the song, a smirk playing on her lips as she finally tore away from Lyle. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause causing her to smile and wave towards everyone.
"Fuck me," Lyle angrily muttered under his breath, before running in the way Jamie went.
Erik watched his brother with an unimpressed look on his face.
"Trouble in paradise?" Erik's head turned to see a girl with straight blonde hair. She had an all pink outfit on. He couldn't even begin to tell what color her eyes were from all the different colors the stage lights were reflecting.
"No—he's my brother!" Erik yelled over the music, confused on what he meant. The girl laughed.
"I'm Penny." She said, her rosy cheeks illuminated by the light.
"I'm sorry, I have a girlfriend!" Erik yelled again, not really sure as to what the girl wanted from him.
She raised an eyebrow. "I'm not saying I want your number. I'm new here—I'm trying to make new friends!" She also yelled over the music.
"Oh. Well, I'm Erik!" Penny smiled, and respectfully kept her distance from Erik, never touching him once that entire night. Instead, they watched Laurie preform, and very loudly talked over the music.
Meanwhile, Lyle could finally see Jamie.
"Jamie! Baby, please wait!" He yelled after her, quickening his pace. Jamie whipped around, her big hair following behind her.
The distance between them was minimal as Lyle stopped.
Jamie had mascara streaks running down her face.
"Why should I wait Lyle?" She asked tearfully, sniffling as she flung her arms out just for them to smack against her side.
"Because, Jamie, I'm sorry." He said, walking towards her.
She stuck out her hand. "Don't."
Lyle cursed himself for his own taste in women. Always so stubborn and hard to makeup with.
"You are...you are something else, you know that?" She asked sarcastically, her voice still wavering from her tears.
"What?" He asked confused.
"Lyle, I heard you the other night. We share the same bed and you think I won't hear you?"
Lyle looked at her, his expression mixed with confusion and anger. He rapidly moved his hands by his head as he spoke.
"What the fuck are you talking about? Do you hear yourself? You sound crazy!"
"You said her name in your sleep! Who the fuck does that?!"
Lyle ran his hands over his face in anger. He let out a groan.
"I was asleep. I can't control that!"
"It's the way you said it!" Jamie yelled, pointing at him.
"How the fuck did I say it then, Jamie? Huh?!"
"It was like a..uhh," Jamie snapped her fingers and looked to the sky as she tried to find the word. Finally, when it hit she snapped her fingers one grand last time and pointed at him.
"It was like you moaned it!"
Lyles mouth fell open. He lowered his head, his hand over his forehead covering his eyes.
"What the fuck?" He muttered.
"Yeah. You ain't got nothing to say now." Jamie said as more tears ran down her face.
"What the fuck?!" Lyle suddenly screamed, stomping the ground.
Jamie's lips fell into a thin line.
"We're over. We are done. Donezo." She said firmly.
Lyle sighed in defeat.
"Yeah, okay. Whatever Jamie." He sighed out.
She pointed at him again.
"See! I fucking knew it! You don't care about this relationship! About us!"
Lyle stormed off back towards the concert building entrance. Yelling as he went.
"No actually, I don't! Walk home for all I care!" He yelled, not caring to look back at her.
"Yeah, go do what you've been dying to do, Lyle! Go fuck that whore on stage again!"
Lyle paused, and finally turned around. He knew he shouldn't have. But he did.
"Call her a whore again and I'll sue you for every goddamn penny in your pocket!"
And then, he turned back around and kept walking. His chest was rising and falling rapidly from all the yelling he had done and from how angry he was.
"Prick!" Jamie screamed out in a final, futile attempt to make him mad. He simply walked inside, the metal doors slamming behind him.
