Frosty was no longer a mysterious regular. He was family now, so we invited him to our annual Christmas party. The guys had gotten together and gotten Frosty a very special Christmas present.
Jose our cook had put out his usual Christmas spread — bacon wrapped everything from sweet dates to savory shrimp. There were two different rum infused cakes and of course being a bar there was plenty of bar snacks and booze. Also as usual, Jolene and Miri had the bar decorated with holly and lights. Destiny played guitar and we all sang Christmas Carols. Our own Christmas Carol showed up. She was back working as a nurse now and was enjoying it again. And most of our past Christmas guests were also there including Mike and Pixie who had brought the special present.
Once everyone was sufficiently lubricated with their favorite beverages, Destiny announced that she and Freddy our resident writer had composed a special ballad for one of our group, and that she was going to sing it now. Then to the tune of Frosty the Snowman but with a tempo more like a slow ballad she began,
"Frosty the snow man
plowed the winter streets all day
No matter how severe he was always there
To keep things safe and clear.
"Frosty the snow man
Had a coyote for a pet
It wasn't always that way 'til that fateful day
Frosty rush him to the vet.
"Frosty the snow man
Saved a life that day
And from that day on they'd have so much fun
that Frosty's work just seem like play.
"Frosty the snowman
knew wild dogs must have their way
So, they said goodbye, and I began to cry.
He was off to save old Lupin's day!" Destiny winked at Lupin.
As the song ended, Pixie came in carrying Frosty's present. It was a mixed husky pup. Pixie claimed it was mostly Husky, but she knew for a fact that one of its grandsires was a Lab-Rot mix named Max, and she suspected there might even be some coyote blood in the mix.
It was love at first sight. That pup was all over Frosty. Apparently, the pup also liked beer foam as he licked the remnants of Frosty's last sip from around his lips. Frosty was overwhelmed with emotion as the pup kept licking his face. No one can be sad when being administered to by a puppy. Frosty was also thankful that everyone was coming over and giving attention to the pup so he didn't have to say anything. He was that choked-up as am I as I try to finish this.
Lupin proposed a toast to Smiley and all of man's best friends past present and future. Everyone shouted. "Hear! Hear!" and "Merry Christmas!" Destiny began playing "Felice Navidad" and everyone joined in singing, "Felice Navidad Prospero año y Felicidad."
