The colorful fireworks were set off high in the night sky, followed by enthusiastic sounds and shrieks.
When Jennie looked up, she could see the large, luxurious ship docked by the riverside far in the distance. It leaned close to the dock and was embraced by the dazzling fireworks. A red carpet was rolled out past the deck from inside the ship. The ship seemed like it was filled with people, and there were cheers from time to time. With the dock being surrounded by many fans of artistes, many reporters were present to cover the scene too.
Jennie stood there for quite a while. She turned to look at the man beside her and then realized that he was whispering something to Haruto. Moments later, Haruto nodded and then waved to the bodyguards behind them. Two of the black-clothed bodyguards turned around and walked away while the remaining ones came up to circle them, protecting Lisa and Jennie in the middle of the entourage.
"Put on your coat. It's a little cold by the river." His considerate and caring voice came, and before Jennie could reach out, he had already helped her drape the coat over her shoulders and casually fastened the top-most button.
Jennie quietly lowered her head and watched as the pair of hands worked silently. When he was done, she reached to hold him by the arms. "It's not that cold. Let's go. It's quite humid. I think it'll rain later."
Lisa nodded gently before walking ahead.
They had just gotten closer when quite a number of people began to greet them. Lisa's reputation was not inferior to those famous artistes. There were his identity and status, plus the fact that he had always been quite reserved, low-profile and cautious. His presence at a banquet like this tonight was quite rare.
Underneath the interweaving spotlights, the husband and wife slowly made their way to the red carpet as delighted cheers were heard from time to time behind them.
They were led by the waiter to their seats. Jennie then realized that tonight's banquet was quite a grand one. Even Caitlin and Krystal were there. Left, right and center, there were famous stars, including people that one would not usually meet.
"Tonight's event is quite lively. Jisoo and VP Wang's right there!" Jennie lowered her voice and turned to her side to whisper into the man's ear. She glanced around and very quickly noticed a flash of elegant purple.
Miyeon!
Donning a gorgeous and elegant gown, with her outstanding looks and noble identity, she was no doubt one of the main highlights of the event. The limelight that followed her was no less than those main artistes.
Perhaps because she noticed Jennie's gaze, Miyeon looked up to her. Her blue eyes flickered with a faint, gentle light as she elegantly raised her glass to Jennie with a smile as if that little interlude at the Imperial Sky Hotel had never happened.
Even Jennie could not help but admire her composure. She realized that all eyes were on her, so she could only nod and smile in return.
This scene was naturally taken in by the man beside her.
"If you don't want to, then don't force yourself. Your body's still not suited for drinking alcohol, so just have some fruit juice."
Then, he took the wine glass in front of her away and changed it to a glass of fruit juice before she could react. Smoothly, he continued to chat with the guest beside him.
The banquet officially began soon. Popular singers delivered a few deep love songs before the dinner slowly reached its climax.
The husband and wife watched the performances on stage as they chatted from time to time. Jisoo switched places with Wang Qin and sat beside Lisa and Jennie.
Wang Qin, who had been quietly admiring the performances on stage, suddenly could not help but praise, "Director Kim, your company's ambassador, Caitlin, has been progressing well in the past two years. In fact, she's becoming more skilled with her acting. I heard that back then, you supported her greatly for the role of Glory World's spokesperson. You really have a good eye."
Jennie looked up at Caitlin who was singing a poignant song on stage as she smiled gently. "I do quite like her myself. I considered myself a fan of hers too, I guess. Previously, I did follow her shows, and I found that she was actually quite a genuine and very down-to-earth person. I really admire her attitude for life."
"Her attitude for life?" Wang Qin muttered.
Jennie nodded gently. "It lies in the point that she could give up on all her glory to choose marriage at the peak of her career. In fact, her relationship with her husband has always been great, so I admire her. Glory World needs this kind of attitude and spirit."
When she heard Jennie's explanation, Wang Qin beamed in agreement. "Director Kim, you and Chairman Manoban are a pair that's worth envying."
Jennie smiled calmly and subconsciously turned to look at the man beside her. At this moment, the entire venue had fallen silent. The most anticipated moment of the night was here!
The host held the microphone and spoke excitedly on stage, "Next up, let's invite Glory World Corporation's Chairman, Mr. Lisa, to reveal who the award for our best actress goes to. Let's welcome Chairman Manoban!"
When he finished, the lights at the venue suddenly dimmed and gathered to be a brilliant spotlight that illuminated Lisa. The screen above the stage showed Lisa's figure and, of course, Jennie beside him.
Lisa patted Jennie's hand, and then elegantly stood up as he walked up the stage with a calm expression.
Jennie smiled calmly and her face rippled with a faint tenderness as the man slowly walked up the stage. He was cold and extraordinary while being noble and elegant. She could not help but be mesmerized by him. As the people below started to cheer, she finally could not help but grin and wave to the man.
"Our Chairman Manoban is a busy man. Since you made it for our banquet today, how about you sing a short one, Chairman Manoban? Earlier, our CEO Xu sang a song for us too. What do you think, everyone?"
The host on stage obviously would not let go of the opportunity to liven things up. As his voice echoed, the sound of shrieks came too.
"Sing one, Chairman Manoban!"
"Good luck, Chairman Manoban!"
...
Sing a song?
When Jennie heard the challenge, her starry eyes brightened up. She looked at the way the man took the microphone from the host elegantly with an amused smile, and she could not help but cheer him on as she kept waving to the man on stage.
Lisa looked down from the stage. The first thing he saw was his woman waving at him. As they exchanged glances, the little woman even made a surprising move.
She was not stingy as she blew him a kiss, her elegant little face brimming with a smile that looked like blossoming blue roses. She was an unadulterated beauty! He did not know she had such a cute side. His silent handsome face instantly eased, and he could not help but purse his lips as he lowered his head and chuckled softly.
