Lu Sicheng sat at his desk, tapping a pen against the polished wood as he stared out of the large window. His mind churned over the latest developments with Xiao Rui, the team manager who had always been sharp and focused. But lately, something was off. Xiao Rui had made mistakes—blatant ones that Lu Sicheng couldn't ignore. It wasn't like him, and that alone set alarm bells ringing in Lu Sicheng's mind.
Xiao Rui had never been careless before. If anything, he was meticulous, always going the extra mile for the team or as his secretary. And he'd been one of the most excited when Yona Linghuo, their newest player, had joined. So why had he dropped the ball on crucial decisions now?
With a frown, Lu Sicheng leaned back in his chair, considering the possibilities. He trusted his instincts, and they were telling him something was wrong. Whether it was personal or professional, he couldn't afford to let it slide. Not when it could impact the team.
He picked up his phone and dialed Lui Ting, his usual go-to for handling delicate situations. The line buzzed for a moment before Lui Ting answered, his tone casual as usual.
"Lu Sicheng. Didn't expect a call this late. What's going on?"
"I need you to investigate someone," Lu Sicheng said, cutting straight to the point. His voice was calm but carried the weight of his request. "It's Xiao Rui."
A pause. Lui Ting's surprise was subtle but noticeable. "Xiao Rui? As in our Xiao Rui? What happened? That's unexpected."
"Exactly," Lu Sicheng replied, his voice dropping slightly. "He's never made these kinds of mistakes before, and now it's happening all at once. It's too obvious. Something's not adding up."
Lui Ting processed the information, his voice more serious now. "You think there's more to it?"
"I don't know yet, but I need to find out. Xiao Rui was the most enthusiastic about bringing Yona Linghuo on board. Now, he's dropping the ball left and right. It doesn't fit his usual behavior. There's something going on, and I want to know what."
There was another pause on the other end of the line, followed by the sound of tapping as Lui Ting jotted down notes. "Alright. I'll look into it. I'll be discreet. If something's off, we'll figure it out."
"Be careful with this," Lu Sicheng warned, his tone darkening. "If there's something going on, it's not just professional. I want to know what's putting pressure on him."
Lui Ting's voice held a calm professionalism. "Got it. I'll start right away."
Lu Sicheng's eyes narrowed slightly at that. He had considered the possibility, but without more information, it was too soon to make assumptions. "I'll let you know if I notice anything else."
"Understood," Lui Ting confirmed. "I'll be in touch once I have something."
As he contemplated the situation, Lui Ting's tone shifted to a more playful note. "By the way, congrats on finally winning the little fairy's heart."
Lu Sicheng couldn't help but smile, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly. "It wasn't easy."
"Oh, I can only imagine," Lui Ting teased
"What did she get?" Lu Sicheng questioned and there was a beat before Lui Ting laughed, unrestrained and deep and Lu Sicheng blinked taken aback "Sorry brat, I will let your lady do the honours of telling you. Fair warning don't lose control when you do find out" he spoke ending the call before Lu Sicheng could say more leaving the man bewildered and even more curious.
