CHAPTER 1

Mount kamutori

There was a small house at the top of mount kamutori . A family lived there . The head of the family was tanjuro kamado . He used to burn wood to make charcoal and then sell it in the small town down the mountain to help his family financially .

The Kamado family lived there for a very long time and they were known in the town for their kind and loving nature . So , the people of the village used to buy charcoal from the kamado family to help them .

Tanjuro lived with his wife kie kamado and his four sons and two daughters . The elder of the six siblings was his son tanjiro kamado .

Tanjiro was a very unique boy . He had maroon colored eyes and red burgundy hair . He had a scar on his forehead , that he got when he tried to save his younger brother from falling on the boiling water . Tanjiro also had a very strong sense of smell .

When tanjiro turned 16 . Tanjuro kamado passed away from a long suffering illness . Tanjiro dropped out of the school and took the responsibity of his family from his father . Before his passing , Tanjuro gave tanjiro a pair of hanafuda earrings , that was their family's heirloom .

3 months have passed after the death of tanjuro kamado . It was a day time .

Tanjiro was putting the charcoal in a wooden basket . As he was going down the mountain to the nearby town to sell the charcoal . He was hanging the strips of the basket on his back .

"Tanjiro?" Kie kamado called him , he looked at his mother .

She was wearing a white apron that covered her checkered kimono .

"Come over here , your face is dirty" she said .

Tanjiro goes to her . She wiped the soot from his face .

"It get dangerous because of the snow . It's okay if you don't go" she said , worried .

"I want everyone to be full during the new year . I want to sell more charcoal and I also talk to some people in the town for a job" Tanjiro replied , swiftly .

"Thank you" she said , praying for his son's safety .

Their silence was disturbed by hanako and shigeru . Takeo also came , but he saw them from a distance .

"Oni-chan" they both come running to him . Tanjiro looked at them .

"Are you going to the town today?" Shigeru asked .

"I want to tag along too" hanako said .

"You can't . You both can't walk as fast as tanjiro , right?" Kie said , coming to them .

"But Mom" they both protested .

"No . He can't pull out the carriage today . You can't sit and rest on it" kie said .

"Oni-chan" Shigeru ran and hugged tanjiro . Tanjiro smiled .

"I want to go with you . I'll help you sell the charcoal too" hanako pleaded .

"Thank you , hanako" tanjiro said . Patting her head . Hanako's face lit up with a smile .

"But you should stay home today" she pouted "and shigeru too" tanjiro said .

"I'll buy chocolates for you" he said , patting the shigeru head .

"Really?" He said .

"Yes" tanjiro then looked at hanako "Hanako , I'll read a book to you , when i return home" he said , smiling .
