India walked up to the place that her parents lived in. Her flight had been a long one and the time zones were exhausting but she was finally in a place that she remembered and knew and had spent many years in.
She took a deep breath as she knocked on the door. She looked around at their quaint little house among the vineyards that her mother had inherited from her own father. The door opened and her mother stood staring at her like she couldn't believe what she was seeing. "India... oh my god.... LAWRENCE!..." she yelled.
A man came to the door, a tall, well built man, a handsome man too. "Hey dad.."
His eyes fell to the baby in her arms. "No....
India looked at him, a look of sadness.
"Lawrence... it's our baby...."She is not coming in here... she chose him and being pregnant over her own bright future.... Don't come back here India... just don't..." he slammed the door shut on her.
Leesa, her mother looked at her husband. "She's come here to see us... she is alone with the baby... I know you're a tough man Lawrence but that is our daughter... our baby..."
"And she disobeyed me to become a low rate piece of meat for a thug...
"Didn't you start off a thug yourself... didn't I meet you that way?." She said to him her brow furrowed. "Don't penalise her for your past mistakes, she's here.... She obviously needs us..."
Leesa opened the door, she could see her daughter sitting on the embankment opposite clutching her baby boy, looking lost. She walked over to her and she sat next to her on the grass. "He's just upset baby...
"But it isn't Darin's fault... he's a beautiful baby...
She paused for a second. "India why have you come here?..."
She looked at her mom, her eyes welled up. "Because dad was right... he used me mom... he won't leave his wife, he did things that put my son's life in danger... I was so, so, stupid!." She said with meaning.
"Come on inside, talk to your father... he still loves you..." she told her.
India got up and Leesa took a very happy Darin from her, he just wanted to get down and play, oblivious to what was going on.
They got inside and Lawrence stood looking at India.
"Dad.." she said her heart breaking at the way he was looking at her. "I'm sorry...."You're sorry!.. after the fact... all the shit that I told you didn't even register before the fact...
"He's your grandson..." she said trying to break his tough exterior.
