"Dang it!" Bree woke up and looked at the phone. It's 9:30 already?! I overslept and nobody woke me up! She exclaimed disappointingly. That essay was all for nothing! She thought to herself with a groan. I have never missed a single day of school in my life, what will my teachers think of me? I'm such a failure... Bree mumbled to herself as she stared at her computer screen with her beautifully written essay. As Bridget stared at her alarm and the minutes ticked by, she decided to stay home and do nothing instead of going to school. She didn't want to admit that she had overslept. And she could probably just send her teacher an email with the essay so it wouldn't have all been in vain. Okay, so maybe it won't be as bad as I'm thinking

So she got up and walked around her room and decided to redecorate. It was time for a change. All those posters of cute actors like young Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio she had on her wall had to go. She could hide her secret celebrity crush, Tom Cruise, in her closet. No one would ever find him there. Then she made a list of all the things she needed to buy to make her bedroom look aesthetic and pretty. The must-haves were, of course: Fairy lights, a nice rug, scented candles, and she also wanted to furnish the place a bit more, like maybe adding a vanity. Bree chuckled as she wondered how she was going to pay for all of these things and opened Pinterest to look for more inspiration. It was almost noon when her mother finally knocked on her door.

"Hey sweetie, are you feeling okay?"

"Mom...Hi... Yeah, I guess I am. I thought you would notice that I didn't leave the house and wake me up, but you know, it's okay".

"Oh honey, I didn't notice. I was busy with Lily, and you never miss school, so I just thought you left a little early."

"Don't worry about it. It's okay if I stay home today though, right?"

"Yes hon, don't worry about it. You have been working hard for a long time, you really should take a day off. I see you are making a list. Making plans to redecorate a room? Sounds like a fun plan. I'll make us some pancakes and coffee, and we can go over your list together if you like."

It was the first time in months that Mom had asked to spend some time with her. She was so busy either working or taking care of her little sister, Lily. She was in kindergarten now, and Thursdays were her mom's day off. She was glad her alarm didn't go off now. This was a chance to make up for the past few months of her mom's unintentional 'absence' in her life.

"Sure Mom, I'd love to."

A few minutes later, she could smell the pancakes and the coffee. Bree opened her window to let the crisp fall air fill her room and watched some eastern bluebirds fly around the trees. They were her favorite kind, and she loved how cute they looked with their blue color. Then she picked out her favorite sweatshirt to wear. She thought about how privileged she was, and even though her parents were strict, they could be completely different people sometimes, especially when they didn't have much to do, in her mom's case, when Lily wasn't home she could have some time to relax. Bree knew her mom loved her very much, but sometimes she wished she was a little girl so she could have her mom all to herself. Times changed, however, and she now had a little sister whom she adored. Her father, on the other hand, was always busy and had more important things to do than be with his family. She didn't know exactly what he worked with because it sounded so complicated, but she knew he was an important man in a big tech company. He wasn't home much. Always on business trips to fancy places like Hawaii or Dubai, so her mom was the one who raised her sister and Bree. Bridget didn't mind much because she loved her mom very much, but sometimes she wondered if her dad cared at all. She knew it must be hard for her mom since he's rarely around and works so much.
