"W-what" Thea looked at him wide eyed
"Hmm". Yaroslav hummed
"Does that mean you-", thea was about to question him before Yaroslav cut her off "yes" he said looking at her "I am the pakhan of the Russian Bratva"
Thea still couldn't belive her ears this guy is the head of the Russian mafia, "ho-how?" Yaroslav looked at her and said chuckling "like people become Thea" , Thea narrowed her eyes at his teasing, Yaroslav looked at her softly before shifting a little close to her, "My dad sucided when i was 7 years old infront of me, not that he was aware I was standing there, he after 7 years still couldn't cope up with my moms death"
"wh- I am so sorry you had to see that thats horrible" Thea said imagining a 7 year Yarsolav waiting for his dad only to see him killing himself is horrible, the pain he would've felt would have been un imaginable, Thea couldn't even think a life without her parents espeacially her dad, he has always been her hero.
"It's alright, I got over it eventually," Yaroslva said, his tone steady but laced with a hint of old pain. "Yurik, Dimitris dad, helped us train until I was ten. Then my grandfather took over, and everything changed. He was ruthless, Thea. A single mistake—one misstep, one failure—and we'd be locked up, beaten, starved for days. He drilled into us the belief that softness, love, made us weak. Vulnerable. But we didn't let him break us. No matter what he did, we held onto what Dad had taught us from the very beginning—that trusting someone too easily was dangerous, but loving someone was never a mistake."
Yarolsav paused, his eyes darkening as if recalling a buried memory. "Sometimes, I questioned Dad's philosophy. He loved my mom more than anything, so much that he nearly gave up the whole mafia for her. He treated her like a queen. But in the end, her death destroyed him. I never met her. She died just months after giving birth to me, and all I know about her comes from what Yurik and Dad told me. It makes me wonder if loving someone that much is really worth the risk when it leaves you shattered like that."
Thea's heart clenched painfully when she heard Yarolsavs story. A tear slipped from her eye, rolling down her cheek, and Yaroslav's gaze followed it. With a soft touch, he wiped it away, his thumb lingering on her skin. "Don't cry over me, butterfly. It doesn't matter anymore," he whispered gently.
"Of course it matters," Thea responded, her voice trembling as she tried to control her sobs. "You had your whole childhood ruined, Yaroslav. It does matter. You never had a chance to be a kid, to feel safe or loved like you deserved." Her tone turned firmer as she fought to hold back more tears. She couldn't even begin to fathom what he had endured. It mirrored her own pain too closely. The memories she tried so hard to bury came rushing back—the suffocating darkness, the hands that hurt her, the cruel laughter that haunted her. Suddenly, she felt an overwhelming need to scream.
A sharp pain shot through her chest, and she rubbed it, trying to soothe the ache, but it only grew worse. Yaroslav noticed immediately, his expression shifting to panic as he pulled her close. "Fuck—call the doctor!" she managed to whisper before her eyes fluttered shut. Yaroslav's heart dropped. "No, no, no! Thea, keep your eyes open! Fuck—DIMITRI!" he shouted, his pulse racing. She was fine just a minute ago. Damn it. He cursed under his breath, lifting her in his arms, carrying her bridal style as he rushed her inside.
Dimitri, just waking up, heard the commotion. One of their men ran up, breathless, telling him that Thea had collapsed and that Yaroslav was calling for him. His eyes widened in shock as he sprinted to Yaroslav's room, dialing the doctor on his phone. Ivan and Nikolai were informed next, the twins dropping everything and rushing to the scene. The family doctor, who lived in a small house on the estate, arrived quickly. His eyes widened as he found all four men gathered, clearly panicked, and Thea unconscious in Yaroslav's arms.
