Maria ran between the trees as fast as she could, bursting into the cave and doing an 90 degree turn to enter the base. She stopped in the sub to see Jessie on the ground, bleeding from a deep gash in her thigh. In front of her was a mish mash of metallic pieces, sharp, dull, in all shape and sizes. A single eye turned to look at Maria who was surprised. It blinked once while Jessie pulled herself away and vanished in a blur, suggesting it ran away. Maria came to Jessie, crouching beside her and looked at the wound.

- Are you okay? Is the pain too much to handle?

Jessie shook her head but Maria knew it was a lot to take. Jessie wasn't even able to talk, probably still in shock. Maria stood up and went to the side of the sub, finding a first aid kit. She brought it back and treated her wound, wrapping it in a bandage after cleaning it. She helped Jessie up and helped her to one of the sub's rooms.

- Stay here while I go get Dave and the food. We'll lock ourselves in until you're well enough to stand up. Try and get some sleep, maybe it'll help.

She smiled and before closing the door, Jessie smiled back, calmly closing her eyes. Maria wondered what the metallic thing was. It seemed like a robot but it had no specific structure. The bot had only one self cleanable eye and tons of different type, shape and sized pieces sticking out from no apparent core. Maybe Johnny knew something about it since he hacked the computers of the facility. When she got back to the camp, Dave was making a basket to hold the food.

- Why did you run off like that Maria?

She sat down and tried making a basket too.

- You couldn't hear it but Jessie was screaming down there.

Dave stayed silent for a while.

- She got attacked... Didn't she?

- Yep. If you told us earlier, we could've prevented this from happening. Now she's injured.

He sighed and continued making his basket.

- So... What are your abilities?

- Well... I got a couple i can't access unless i'm angry.

She started thinking.

- I can fly, i have superior hearing and sight. I have bigger lungs than normal so i can hold my breath for a long time, i can see in the dark and.... I can fight pretty well. I prefer guns though. I like being sniper but sometimes you gotta love the shotgun.

He stayed there, looking at her in awe.

- So you're basically a war machine?

She froze in place, stopping her movements suddenly. She raised her head towards Dave who got uncomfortable and sat straight up.

- when i'm angry I can breathe fire, turn invisible. Get to some pretty high speed. I also have super strength and an interesting ability to hack into anything. I also forgot to add that i have pretty sharp teeth and long claws on my hands and feet.

- I'm not a war machine Dave. I'm just not the kind of person you want to tick off. , she added.

They finished their baskets in silence and brought the food together to the sub. Maria kept quiet, hearing the metallic noises going around the maze of corridors. Dave seemed to hear nothing and they were almost there so she shrugged it off and got to the sub.

The door to Jessie's room was full of slashes, the metal shining brightly in the cracks. Maria looked at them very carefully. They were done with precision and slowly, making it in sort she couldn't have heard them from the camp. She opened it to see Jessie on the corner of the bed in a little ball, shivering, her hands on both of her ears. She looked up to Maria with fright filling her eyes and all Maria could do was remembering herself when she was brought back to her home base in Canada. Scared, confused and lost in a way. She couldn't stop herself from coming over to Jessie and sitting beside her, keeping her company until she calmed down. Dave came by but left as soon as he realized it wasn't a good time to start a chat. After what seemed like an hour Maria sat up.

- Can i see your wound? Maybe it reopened.

Jessie smiled and laughed a little.

- I wondered when you were going to say something.

- what? Were you waiting for me to talk this whole time?

- Nah... But really, thanks for keeping me company. I needed it.

They both smiled and a day later they decided to leave the island with Dave. The sub was old but still had some life in it. Their trip went well and the oxygen tanks were still in the green when their S.O.S reached Monster Island, their home. The rescue team reached them shortly after where they saw a familiar face in the team.

- Goji! , Maria exclaimed.

She took his hand and he helped her inside the boat. He helped Jessie and Dave before turning back to the team.

- Are you guys alright?

- Just a couple of wounds but we should be okay. , replied Jessie.

- Yeah... I sorta broke my wing again...

Goji chuckled a little and smiled.

- we were all worried at the HQ. Last thing we heard from both of you were gunshots.

- It's a pretty long story... Said Jessie.

Maria nodded and smiled, more than happy to see Goji again. She looked at Dave who was looking at the hybrids in awe and back towards the island, now far in the distance. There was a huge explosion that rose from the side of it, where the base was and the whole crew looked at it. The mushroom cloud rose silently.

- Everyone hold on to the boat! , screamed Goji.

The shockwave hit hard, causing big waves to push the boat far and fast.

- We need to report ASAP to HQ, lets go!
