Phuwin dragged himself upstairs through the door, his shoulders heavy with the weight of a rough day at work. Pond noticed immediately, always in tune with his best friend's moods. Phuwin barely had time to sit down before Pond suddenly grabbed a pillow, grinning mischievously.
"Pillow fight!" Pond shouted, tossing a pillow straight at Phuwin's head.
"What-are you serious?" Phuwin groaned, but his lips curled into a small smile despite his exhaustion. He grabbed the nearest pillow, and soon, they were both throwing and dodging, laughter filling the room.
In the midst of their playful battle, Phuwin tripped over the rug and fell onto the couch with a soft thud. Pond, not paying attention, stumbled forward and landed on top of him. Their laughter stopped abruptly as their eyes locked, the air between them suddenly charged with something new.
For a moment, neither moved. Pond's heartbeat echoed in his ears as his face hovered inches above Phuwin's. Time seemed to freeze before Pond leaned in, closing the gap, their lips meeting in a tentative kiss.
Just as they deepened the kiss, the door swung open with a bang, startling them both.
"Pond! Phuwin! I-what are you guys doing?!" Pond's mom stood in the doorway, her eyes wide, a mix of shock and curiosity on her face.
Pond quickly sat up, cheeks burning. "Nothing, mom! Just, uh, a pillow fight."
Phuwin shot up from the couch so quickly he almost lost his balance, face flushed and eyes wide with embarrassment. "Uh, yeah, a pillow fight," he stammered, glancing at Pond for backup as he awkwardly adjusted his shirt.
Pond scrambled to his feet too, trying to act casual, though his heart was still racing from both the kiss and the sudden interruption. "Totally normal, right? Just blowing off some steam!" He waved his hand as if to brush off the tension in the room.
Pond's mom raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced but decided not to press further. "Well, dinner's ready whenever you two are done... fighting." She lingered for a moment longer, her eyes flickering between them, before turning and closing the door behind her.
The silence that followed was heavy. Phuwin avoided Pond's gaze, running a hand through his hair nervously. "We should... uh, go eat," he mumbled, but he couldn't help stealing a glance at Pond, his mind replaying that brief, intense moment they'd just shared.
Pond, still processing everything, nodded slowly. "Yeah... sure. Let's go."
As they walked into the dining room, the air between them was thick with unspoken words. Pond's mom had already set the table, and the aroma of food filled the space, but neither Pond nor Phuwin seemed particularly focused on eating.
They sat across from each other, doing their best to act normal. Phuwin picked at his food, sneaking glances at Pond whenever he thought no one was looking. His mind raced, replaying the kiss over and over, wondering what it meant and if Pond felt the same.
Pond, on the other hand, was struggling to keep his cool. Every time he looked up and saw Phuwin's face-cheeks slightly flushed, eyes darting away-his heart skipped a beat. He kept telling himself to focus on the food, but the stolen glances and the weight of what had just happened kept pulling him back to Phuwin.
Pond's mom chatted away about her day, oblivious to the tension sitting between the two boys. Phuwin nodded along to her words, giving polite responses, but his mind wasn't really there. Every time Pond's knee brushed against his under the table, it sent a jolt of electricity through him.
Finally, Pond's mom got up to grab something from the kitchen, leaving the two of them alone for a moment. The silence stretched between them, heavy with everything left unsaid.
