Chapter 7

Haven

Present day

The Captive's Path

Aelor placed Haven gently down. His wings cocooned her as she was slid down onto the pelt her father had given her years before. "Aelor." She whispered as he placed her blanket over her. He looked down at her, his iris's white.

"I can't stay out of the veil for long Haven." He placed a hand on her head. "A man will come soon and he will tell you this: 'The daughters of both light and night shall rise,

Their powers bloom in rested womb,

Their eyes of forest and of fire,

A captive's path he shall delay,

The hound shall hide, the key to life,

A king will come for saviors yet unknown.

A healer's touch shall soothe the storm,

Trust him whose battle-hardened soul can lead.

Death befalls the man once sworn to protect,

The woman's fate is already sealed,

But trust the sacrifice she yields.

When he does, you must follow him, Haven."

Haven didn't understand, she puzzled over it frowning at him. "Am I dreaming?" She got up on her elbows.

Aelor frowned and picked up her pack pulling a pack of letter paper and quill free. "You don't have ink, where is your ink?" He asked her his voice filled with concern.

Haven shrugged and titled forward. Her vision blurred and she giggled as he stood over her.

Aelor looked around, dumping the contents of her pack on the ground. "Nothing." He growled. He hesitated and then brought his wrist to his lips biting down with his sharp teeth. Blood pooled on his wrist and he dipped the tip of the quill into it.

"Look Haven, I'm writing this down. It is a prophecy only known by few. When you hear it, you need to follow them to the King. They will guide you to safety." Haven saw two of the owl man. She blinked twice to clear her vision. "You're safe here but not for long, do you understand?" The man asked her. Haven giggled and nodded.

"This is not good." The man paced. "Haven you need help... I don't know what to do."

"I thought you were the god of wisdom!" Haven shouted throwing the bowl that rested on her pelt at him.

"I thought so too." He dodged the bowl and bent down to place the paper in her pack. "I'll think of something. You rest. Your brother and Halex will come to find you when the weather turns and you don't return."

"Okay crazy owl man." Haven laughed and then patted Aelor's shoulder.

"Sleep." Aelor smiled and touched her forehead, "And let them be pleasant dreams, you will need these memories for the days yet to come.

Haven was filled with an immediate warmth. She slipped into a deep sleep her eyes fluttering closed. She could hear her own breathing in the distance as her heart rate steadied and she slipped into her dreams. She was in the same meadow she lay in now, except it was summer and she and Halex had caught a variety of items hunting.

Halex lay with his head in her lap, Haven running her hands through his dark brown hair. "I'm terrified of being controlled." Haven admitted to him.

Halex looked up at her, "I would never control you Haven, you know that."
