The roar of battle was slowly subsiding, leaving behind a silence that spoke of victory and sacrifice.I stopped in front of the temple, the place that had seen legends rise and fall, now burdened with the weight of our victory over Seline.
But that victory brought new questions, and the fate of the Shadow King hung over me like a shadow.
“We must find him,” I said to Kael, my heart pounding in my chest. “We need to figure out what to do next.”
We ventured into the temple, where darkness seemed to envelop everything like a heavy blanket. Following a familiar path, we reached a large hall.
In the center, on the cold stone floor, lay the Shadow King, once powerful and feared, now reduced to a shadow of himself.
“You’ve returned…” he murmured, lifting his gaze toward me. But in his eyes, there was no longer the power that once defined them, only deep vulnerability. He was consumed... my power had consumed him.
“Have you won?”
“Seline has been defeated,” I replied, my voice heavy with emotion. “But now I want to know one thing: why didn’t you ever come looking for me? Why did you choose this path?”
The Shadow King closed his eyes, as if trying to find the right words.
“Your mother… she was afraid. She wanted to protect you from Seline, from me, from what I had become. She believed that keeping you away was the only way to ensure your safety.”
“And you? Did you never want to be part of my life?”
I felt a pang of disappointment. The idea of an absent father was a heavy burden to bear.
“I only realize now that I was wrong,” he admitted, his voice filled with resignation. “My ambition drove me away from you. I sought power to dominate, but I lost everything, including my connection to you.”
Kael stepped forward, his gaze intense. “And now? What will become of you?”
“I have no more control,” the Shadow King replied, his face marked by despair.
“The power I once possessed has consumed me. I am no longer the king you knew. I can do nothing but accept my punishment.”
I looked around, my thoughts racing. “I will confine you here. Away from everyone and in the light of the sun, so you can no longer harm anyone, and you will never be able to return to the realm of shadows.”
The Shadow King nodded, surrender evident in his eyes. “Do what you must.”
With strong determination, Kael and I led him to a corner of the temple where light filtered through a crack in the ceiling, creating a beam of brightness. We channeled the energy once more and created a bubble around the temple. He wouldn’t escape from there.
It was a symbol of hope and a new life, not just for me, but also for the father I now knew I had lost.
“Goodbye, father,” I whispered, as the Shadow King let go, accepting his fate.
As I exited the temple, the warmth of the sun enveloped me like a hug. But the emotion I felt was not only for the victory but also for the weight of loss and the choices made.
Kael turned to me, his intense gaze filled with understanding, smiling.
“You did what you had to do, Alina. You’re strong.”
In that moment, the world around us seemed to blur. All the battles we had faced, the wounds and scars, everything seemed to fade away, leaving only the present.
My heart was beating irregularly, and a palpable tension filled the air.
Kael took a step forward, his gaze intense and deep.
“Alina…” he whispered, drawing closer. His voice was like a call, an invitation I couldn’t ignore.
In that moment, everything I had felt—the fear, the loss, the hope—converged into a single instant.
The anxiety of our journey, the weight of my legacy, and the strength of our bond fused together. I moved closer to him, the distance between us shrinking until it became imperceptible.
Kael leaned in slightly, and without us even realizing it, we found ourselves just inches apart.
His eyes searched mine, and in the silence that followed, we realized how close we had become, not just physically but emotionally.
“We’re not alone,” Kael said, his voice trembling. “We’ve faced so much together, and I don’t want to lose you. I’m better with you.”
And before I could respond, our lips met.
It was a sweet and passionate kiss, filled with all the emotions we had been carrying inside.
It was a sign of promise, a bond forged in the flames of battle and the light of hope.
I felt a shiver run through me, an explosion of warmth that filled every corner of my being.
It was as if everything I had ever desired came to fruition in that moment.
The world around us dissolved, and it was just the two of us, wrapped in an embrace that felt eternal.
When we finally pulled away, our breaths were ragged, and our hearts beat in unison.
Kael looked at me with a smile, and in that gaze was a promise, a future we would build together, facing whatever awaited us.
“We’re not alone,” he repeated, his voice filled with certainty. “And now, we’re ready to write our story.”
