I pulled the grill and walked into the house exhausted from school.

I saw my stepmother sitting in the living room smoking.

"Good evening," I greeted her holding my head high.

She glanced at me and hissed her teeth without responding.

I rolled my eyes and walked to the direction of my room.

Allow me to introduce myself my name is Monique (Moh-neek) Jazzlyn Miller. I am 17 years old and currently attending Ardenne high school in grade 11.

I live in the community of August town. I live in a two story house with my father, sister and stepmother. Over the years the community has became more dangerous and was ruled by a gang called 'Black cards'.

When mi mean dangerous mi mean haffi grill up window and have a weapon pon you always. Every night there was a shoot out between them and the neighboring community.

But since of this week they haven't been that frequent.

My father Michael is 60 and owns a little mechanic shop to provide for our family.

He always leaves early and come home late. We don't really have a good father daughter relationship.

We hardly exchange any words since my mother died.
He didn't even shed a tear when she died.

My stepmother khandy is 32 years old and is as evil as can be. She is old enough to be his daughter and that is one of the reasons I hate her.

She married my father 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐲ears ago the same time my mother was buried.
She has my father wrapped around her fingers anything she wants or says he believes her.

My sister Monica is 16 years old she is in grade 10 and we attend the same school.

I placed my bag in my closet and took off my shoes placing it on my shoe shelf.

I took off my uniform and placed it in the laundry basket.

I took of my undergarments and went into the bathroom. I stepped into the shower and turned on the water.

I placed on my shower cap and placed my hand under the water. The coldness of the water made me drag away my hand.

I quickly rushed under the water and ran out back . I did this a few more times to get used to the coldness and began to scrub my body.

I finished showering and stepped out of the shower and felt clean.
