My Husband

Would he fall for my smile?
And become my partner in crime?
Who makes my heart rhyme,
And takes all of my time.

Would he fall for my eyes?
And bind our hearts with ties,
Who tells me I’m beautiful every day,
And wishes for forever, come what may.

Would he fall for my long hair,
And truly, deeply care?
All our time, we’ll freely share,
And all our secrets, laid bare.

Then my lover should reply:
I wouldn’t fall for your hair or smile,
Nor for your eyes,
They’re not the reasons I’d tie these ties.

I never fell in love with you,
You never let me simply fall,
You taught me how to grow in love,
That’s why I love you, most of all.

I loved you first when you hugged me as I cried,
Second, when I lost, and you said, “I love that you tried,”
Third, when I gave up, you pushed me to try again,
Fourth, when you said, “Let’s walk in the rain.”

I love you infinitely,
Whether you’re ugly or pretty,
In every word you speak,
And in every step you take so freely.

I love your presence,
I’m incomplete in your absence,
You made me fear losing this life,
That’s how deeply our love became, my wife!
