Laa-Laa has waist length yellow orange hair and coral brown eyes. She wears a light cream barrette on right sides of her head, positioned upon her right prominent strand of hair beside her thick, full bangs. Although sometimes . She is above average height, reaching 170 centimeters tall. In the campaign, she is seen to wear a pink turtleneck with long sleeves. Her full body isn't shown but the turtleneck reaches down to her knees, making a dress-like look.

Laa-Laa is portrayed throughout the majority of books as being quiet, generous, polite, bookwormish, very intelligent, eloquent, and passionate about topics she is interested in, although she is also very awkward. Laa-Laa expresses both maturity and sophistication in everything she does. Her façade of passivity and levelheadedness occasionally breaks, as she sometimes acts "immature" or a scaredy cat. She can be innocently insensitive, but once she realizes what she said could be considered rude, she almost immediately apologizes, repeatedly saying she did not mean it. She tends to think before speaking.

In the Japanese translation, her given name, "Laa-Laa", written as "ラーラー ", has no special meaning as it is written in katakana. Meanwhile her surname "Nijinoiro", written as "虹の色",is a combination between three words; Niji, No, and Iro. When transliterated, her surname in English is literally "Thecolorsoftherainbow", as her surname is a combination. When uncombined, her surname means "The Colors Of The Rainbow".
