Sasha
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my eyes tracing the lines of my makeup thanks to the help of Kelsey.
My hands, slightly shaky with anticipation, held a mascara wand that I meticulously waved through her lashes. The soft strokes painted them a darker shade of brown, making my eyes pop. The room smelled faintly of strawberry lip gloss and the lingering scent of hairspray.
Looking in the mirror at myself in wonder."Okay, Kelsey, what do you think? Is this dress too much for a first date?"
Kelsey looks at me grinning
"You look incredible! Perfect for your date, what exactly has Vinny planned? ""I don't know" I sign as I look at myself over again in the mirror. I'm just worried it's either too much or not enough, this is my first date in a year you know how picky I am."
" sash you look fabulous. Perfect, even"
she said with a smile, her voice a blend of satisfaction and excitement. She held up her phone, the screen lighting up the room with a flash. "Selfie time!"We leaned in close, our cheeks touching, and snapped a picture. The image captured the joy on our faces and the vibrant colours of my outfits. I wore a light blue dress that made my skin glow, The camera captured the moment perfectly, preserving the memory of our friendship and the nervous excitement of the impending date.
Vinny would be here any minute.
"You're going to knock him dead," Kelsey assured me placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Remember, just be yourself. He's a lucky guy."
I took a deep breath and nodded, trying to soothe the butterflies in my stomach. The doorbell rang a clear and piercing sound that seemed to echo through the house. I looked at Kelsey, who gave her an encouraging nod. "Knock him dead baby girl" she whispered.
As I approached the door, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I took one final glance at the mirror in the hallway and smoothed my hair before opening the door. There he was, Vinny, looking as nervous as I felt. He wore a simple white t-shirt and jeans, with a hint of cologne that smelled faintly of mint. His eyes lit up when he saw me, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth spread through my body.
"Hey wow," he said, his voice cracking slightly. "You look... amazing."
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks as I thanked him. "You don't look too shabby either," I replied with a shy smile. We exchanged glances, and for a moment, the world around us seemed to fall away, leaving only the awkwardness of a first date.
"Ready to go?" Vinny asked, breaking the silence.
I nodded, grabbing my purse. "Let's do this," I murmured, trying to ignore the swarm of nerves that had taken up residence in my stomach.
We arrived at a mini golf course, the neon lights casting a vibrant glow over the green turf and colourful obstacles. Vinny held open the door for me, and I stepped into the whimsical world, the sound of laughter and the clank of golf clubs hitting balls floating through the air. The scent of popcorn wafted from the snack bar, making my stomach rumble.
We picked up our clubs and golf balls, opting for a set with a pink flamingo for me and a neon blue shark for Vinny. The cashier gave us a knowing smile, handing over the scorecards. The first hole was a giant clown's mouth, and Vinny stepped up, teeing off with a determined swing. His ball shot through the air and bounced off the rubber nose, landing in the hole with a satisfying clang
I laughed, trying to hide my nerves. "Beginner's luck," I teased, taking my turn. My fucking ball rolled a little too hard, bouncing off the edge and landing in a sand trap. Vinny offered me his hand, his palm warm and slightly calloused, as we stepped onto the plastic turf.
