Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
I tap my pen on the table in sync with the ticking of the clock, my leg bouncing up and down.
The afternoon professor announces the upcoming finals.
"You've got only a week left before the exam, so be ready," he exclaims.
A week, huh. Looks like I won't be able to read any novels in the meantime — time to focus on studying.
The sound of my classmates chattering fills the room after the announcement.
It seems like they're already forming study groups. all of them planning where to and when to study. Already calculating the the costs for snacks. laughing and chattering as they point at each other deciding which house to study to.
as I watched what was happening around me. Suddenly, a classmate approached Samantha and spoke.
"You wanna join us in our group study Samantha?" Our classmate asked.
Then another one spoke. "Wait no fair! We were gonna ask Samantha that,"
As our classmates surround Samantha.
Since Samantha has been so friendly in our class it's almost like all of our classmates are familiar with her. She is a dependable student after all. She gets good scores on quizzes and never shy away to answer questions when there's recitation.
As they surround her, I packed my things and made my way out of the classroom and waited for her outside the room.
A group study huh. I wonder how's it like.
I put on my earphones in my ears and started to play music. looking at my phone. planning out the subjects I'm gonna start studying.
Looks like it'll be a hard exam.
As I see my classmates passing by in my peripheral vision. I guess they're done planning.
I grip my phone tighter sensing gazes as they pass by.
Then Samantha appeared, a girl standing behind her.
"You left me again!" Samantha pouted.
"I was just waiting here," I explained.
I glanced at the girl behind her. She had short hair adorned with a hairband featuring a bow, and it looked like she was hiding behind Samantha, using Samantha's taller stature as a shield.
She looks afraid of me.
"By the way, this is Ella. She asked me to join her to study for the finals exam. She also lives in our city," Samantha said, stepping aside to reveal the girl behind her.
I see.
"Rodriguez, right?" The girl spoke with a quiet voice.
"Yeah." I responded not directly looking at her. feeling her uneasiness to my presence.
"So we planned to do the group study at my house!" Samantha announced with a big smile, her eyes sparkling.
"I see. Who else will be joining you?" I asked Samantha.
Samantha looked at me and smiled.
She looked at me, smiled, and replied, "You."
Wait, what?!
[Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.]
Is this the right address?
I look at my phone staring at Samantha's message.
