~Ivy~

I am laying on my bed working on my pitch when my phone begins buzzing on the night stand. I've been brainstorming ways to get my father to approve this idea of mine. It's one of the reasons why I decided to make sample jeweleries for the school festival. Based on how sales go there, it'll give me an indication of whether or not this business is worth investing in. Surely, it'll be good to have the data to convince my father that time and money won't go to waste.

My phone continues buzzing and so I reach for it to turn it off. I've forgotten to put it on do not disturb and now my train of thoughts have been interrupted.

I glance at the name and my finger immediately goes still on the power button. Zavier? Why would he be calling? A mistake perhaps? In that case, I won't answer. Maybe, he's in trouble. Another fight. But why would he call me of all people? I'd think I'm the last person on his friends list to get a call.

Before it goes to voicemail, I just swipe the answer button. There's no harm in finding out what he wants. If it's a mistake then so be it. If he's in trouble then I can hardly think about a way I can help but at least I would've answered.

I don't hear anything when I've finally answered. It could be one of those butt dials.

"Hello?" I hear an intake of air on the other side. Is he okay? "Zavier?" My eyebrows crease, slightly confused.

"Ivy. Hey." I pull myself from my laying position to sit, sliding my ipad out of the way as I go.

"Zavier." My voice is uncertain. "Hey." Well, this is awkward. And it doesn't help that he's not getting straight to the point.

"So, I called because I wanted to ask you something." I shift, more confusion flooding in. Okay...then ask away.

"And you couldn't wait to do it at the academy?" I'm just finding this a little weird. Not that it isn't normal for two people who talk to each other to call each other. It's just that Zavier and I have never really been the typical friends. We're like...frenemies.

"No, this can't wait. I need to know and you seem like the best person to ask since you're a little genius and all." I frown yet I can't help but be in the slightest intrigued. He also just called me a genius. I don't know but Zavier calling me a genius brings me grand satisfaction.

"What is it?" What can I know and Zavier don't? It's odd he would think to ask me because then I'd know he didn't know and that's grounds for ammunition to use against him later.

"Is the earth round or flat?" What? Way to make me even more confused, Zavier. Like what even is this question?

"Are you drunk?" He has to be. There's no way he's sober right now.

"No. 89×27 is 2403 and the square root of that is 49..." Not convincing. "Point 02." What'd he do, accidentally swallow a calculator while wasted?

"So, you're a smart drunk." I conclude. "Won't be surprised. You're such a show off, you'll go this far to prove something." I mumble.

"What?"

"If you don't say the real reason you called, I'll assume you wanted to just because."

"Maybe you're right." Deep confusion yet again. "What then?"

"Then I'd say you should go bug someone else." Although the call was out of the blue and I'm still weirded out by it, I make myself comfortable on my bed. Zavier is not going to get off this phone anytime soon. He'll rant until he's satisfied.

"What if I just need someone to talk to?" I'm hardly the person you'd want to talk to. Anything you say or do can be used against you in my court of law. I won't play nice if push comes to shove. Or so I think.
