"How was your first high school math class?" Shinobu asked with a wide grin as she effortlessly matched Y/N's pace.

Y/N let out a soft sigh, shaking her head. "It was nothing special. Just the usual first-day stuff—introductions, agenda, standard procedures."

Shinobu's smile widened. "Meet anyone interesting yet? This school's pretty small, so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone who stands out."

Y/N thought for a moment before humming softly. "There was this girl, Kanao. She seemed... different. I can't quite put my finger on it, but she had this aura about her."

Shinobu let out a light giggle, her smile never fading. "That's my sister. She really is something, isn't she?"

Y/N blinked in surprise. "Oh, I didn't know you had a sister."

Shinobu nodded, her expression still soft but proud. "Actually, I have six sisters. Kanao and Aoi are freshmen like us. Then there are the triplets—they're in third grade."

' Wow. Your parents must've been busy.'

A wave of shock flashed Y/N's face for a moment, "How do you keep up with it all? I have an older and younger brother and they drive me bonkers."

She pauses for a moment, "What a weird vocabulary word, but it's pretty easy. Me, my older sister, Kanae, and Aoi are pretty independent."

' I understand the 3rd graders being dependent, but she didn't say anything about Kanao.'

Y/N raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "What about Kanao? You didn't mention her."

A brief silence hung between them before Shinobu responded, her tone more subdued. "Kanao... has some issues. Don't tell her I said that."

Y/N nodded, sensing the shift in the conversation. She glanced ahead at the classroom door. "Well, this is my class." she said quickly, not wanting to push further, and hurried inside.

Once inside the classroom, Y/N scanned her surroundings. Most of her classmates were standing near the edges of the room, chatting quietly.

"Hello, everyone. I am Mr. Petrović," their teacher announced as he walked to the front of the room. "That's PEH- like 'pet,' TROH- like 'pro,' and VICH- like 'witch.' Got it?" He gave them a sharp nod, a playful glint in his eye. "You're probably wondering where Mrs. Hart is—she's on maternity leave."

Mr. Petrović grabbed a list from his desk and began assigning seats. Y/N was placed in the far back left corner of the room, the furthest seat from the door. She sat down quietly, hoping to blend in and avoid unnecessary attention. So far, only one other person had taken a seat at her desk, at the far right, leaving the middle seats empty.

Moments later, two boys approached and filled the middle seats. Y/N glanced briefly at them and then froze.

' Muichiro and Muichiro? There's two of him.'

She decided not to talk to either of them, assuming they were twins, so she didn't need to make friends.

"Alright, class," Mr. Petrović began, passing out large sheets of paper and small, palm-sized hexagons. "Today, we're starting with a simple activity. You'll each answer five questions on the hexagons, then glue them onto the larger paper."

Y/N focused on filling out her hexagons, trying to block out the conversation that had sprung up between the boys next to her. They were deep into some kind of discussion, but she couldn't make out the details. Once she finished her answers, she slid her hexagons to the top of the desk and waited quietly.

Suddenly, one of the boys whipped his head around to face her. "What's your name?" he asked abruptly.

Y/N blinked, taken aback by his forwardness. "Uh... Y/N," she replied hesitantly.

The other boy immediately turned to look at her as well. "Y/N? I met you at Link Day." He leaned into the desk to get a better view.

Y/N furrowed her brow. "Muichiro?" she asked, trying to make sense of the situation.

The first boy, still looking intently at her, spoke again. "How do you know his name?" Raising an eyebrow, suspicious.

"Should I not use his name?" Y/N asks, churlishly.

He makes a frowny face, "Don't mock me."

         "Wasn't trying to."

Muichiro rolls his eyes, "Yuichiro tone it down." He sighs, "You come off real strong to new people."

Yuichiro turns to face his brother, "Oh do I now?"

"Yeah maybe you do." He snaps back.

Yuichiro barks back, "And where did this attitude come from?"

' What a foolish bickering. They're giving me a headache.'

"How about you two stop your bickering and have done with it?" Y/N cuts into their quarreling.

The both of them turn back to her slowly. "We weren't arguing." Yuichiro says blandly.

Y/N is taken aback but replies, "So, why were you two arguing?"

Muichiro raises his voice, "Well I was just saying that it's weird that the women english teachers always get pregnant and not the men!"

The room falls silent as everyone turns to look at him. His face flushes a deep crimson. Y/N averts her gaze from the two, trying to escape the embarrassment.

As she looks away, she hears a loud THAWP, likely the sound of a slap. Turning back, she sees Yuichiro pouting while Muichiro rubs the back of his head with one hand. Curses can be heard from under Yuichiro's breath.

Y/N is the first to laugh, most of the class following. Her nose and ears turn red and shes gripping the table, trying not to fall out of her chair.
