Jeon Jungkook never allowed himself to trust anyone—not even those who had sworn their loyalty to him. Taehyung was his responsibility now, and the idea of letting the boy die gnawed at his insides.

The thought was unbearable. He couldn't afford to let his plan go off course, not when he was this close to getting his revenge. So, he took matters into his own hands.
Carrying a tray of food, Jungkook pushed open the door to the dimly lit room where Taehyung lay.

The boy was curled up on the bed, his chest rising and falling softly, lips parted slightly as he slept. His hair was a mess, strands falling across his forehead, and there was a peacefulness in his expression that seemed out of place in such a setting.
Jungkook placed the tray on the side table, his gaze lingering on Taehyung for a moment.

He felt something stir inside him—something he quickly shoved aside. He reached out, intending to wake the boy with a shake.
“Taehyung, get up,” he said, his voice firm but softer than he intended.

Instead of waking, Taehyung murmured, “A-Appa... wanna sleewp more,” his voice drowsy and childlike, as he turned his face deeper into the pillow.

Jungkook blinked, taken aback. He shook the boy again, a bit more forcefully this time, but Taehyung only mumbled,

“D-dwada, don’t wanna go to college,” before his small arms reached out instinctively, wrapping around Jungkook’s waist as if he were seeking the comfort of his father.

For a moment, Jungkook froze. The feeling of the boy’s warm breath against his neck, the way Taehyung clutched his shirt like a baby —it threw him off balance. An unfamiliar warmth spread through him, a feeling he hadn’t experienced in years.

But then, anger flared within him, hotter than before. What was he doing? This boy wasn’t someone to be comforted; he was the son of the man who had ruined his life.

With a sudden surge of fury, Jungkook pushed Taehyung away, causing the boy to flinch in fear.

“I AM NOT YOUR FUCKING FATHER! GET UP QUICKLY IF YOU WANNA EAT!” he shouted, his voice harsh and cutting through the stillness of the room.

Taehyung jerked awake, eyes wide with terror as tears welled up instantly. He wasn’t used to such harsh treatment—his father had always woken him with kisses and gentle words.

Now, faced with Jungkook’s wrath, he felt utterly lost. The tears spilled over, and he began to sob uncontrollably, his small body shaking with each breath.

Jungkook felt a pang of guilt at the sight, but he forced it down. He had to stay in control. He picked up the spoon and held it out to Taehyung.

“Eat,” he commanded.
Taehyung, still trembling, took the spoon hesitantly. But the moment he tasted the food, he gagged, his sobs intensifying.

It was too spicy—nothing like the sweet dishes he was used to. The spice burned his tongue, and he cried even harder, struggling to breathe between hiccups.

Jungkook’s irritation wavered, replaced by confusion and panic.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” he asked, his voice betraying a hint of concern.
“S-spi-cy... c-cant e-eat that,” Taehyung managed to choke out between sobs, his face scrunched up in pain.

Jungkook’s frustration melted away as he realized what was happening. Without wasting a moment, he barked orders to his men outside the room.

“Bring something sweet! Now!”
Minutes later, one of the men rushed in with a bottle of strawberry milk. Jungkook snatched it from him and handed it to Taehyung, who grabbed it with shaking hands

. The boy sucked on the straw, the sweetness of the milk soothing the burn on his tongue and calming his sobs. Gradually, his tears slowed, and he lay back down, exhausted, clutching the empty bottle like a teddy bear.

Jungkook watched as Taehyung’s eyelids drooped, the boy drifting back into sleep.

The innocence on his face was a stark contrast to the darkness that surrounded them both.

Jungkook couldn’t tear his eyes away from him. A mix of emotions churned inside him—anger, confusion, guilt, and something else he couldn’t quite identify. Something he wasn’t ready to face.

“Get out,” Jungkook ordered his men, his voice barely above a whisper.

They left the room without a word, sensing the tension in the air.

Once alone, Jungkook moved closer to the bed, taking the empty bottle from Taehyung’s limp fingers. The boy whined softly in his sleep, his face scrunching up in a pout, as if he could feel the loss of his comfort.

Jungkook instinctively placed a pillow in Taehyung’s arms, and the boy immediately snuggled into it, his expression relaxing as he slipped into a deeper sleep.
Jungkook stood there, staring down at Taehyung, a sense of unease settling in his chest.

The boy’s lips were red from crying, his cheeks still damp with tears. Jungkook’s hands clenched into fists.

He couldn’t let this boy get to him—couldn’t afford to feel anything for him. But the longer he stood there, the harder it became to convince himself of that.

Turning on his heel, Jungkook left the room, closing the door behind him with a resounding thud. Back in his own quarters, the emotions he’d been suppressing finally boiled over.

He tore through his room in a fit of rage, throwing objects across the space, smashing anything he could get his hands on.

He didn’t understand why he was feeling this way—why he felt the need to protect this boy, to keep him safe. Taehyung was supposed to be a pawn in his game, nothing more.

Yet, the sight of his tears, the innocence in his eyes, it all made Jungkook question everything he’d planned. And he hated it.

Hated that this boy was starting to break down the walls he’d built around himself. But most of all, he hated the part of himself that wanted to protect Taehyung, even at the cost of his revenge.

Jungkook collapsed onto his bed, his breath coming in ragged gasps, as he tried to calm the storm inside him. He couldn’t afford to lose control now.

But deep down, he knew that something had already begun to change, and there was no turning back.
