"Are you ready for this!!" Poppy yelled excitedly into my ear.
"No actually, if I'm being completely honest I feel like crying and possibly throwing up too" I whined.
"You'll be fine! And if you're not I'm here!" Poppy said comfortingly.
"I'm not, I'll be in the first aid tent sucking the alcohol out of the disinfectant wipes to try and make this day more bearable" Daryl supplied helpfully.
I laughed, I love my friends.
I know it shouldn't matter but I hate competitions, everything about them is horrible. Especially if I'm in a team, I just end up bringing them down with my sub par athletic abilities.
First up on my days schedule was the women's netball tournament, it was kinda crazy how much effort the company had put into this sports day. They had rented out a swimming pool and gym and everything for all the events.
As Daryl waved good bye to us in his bright orange first aid high-vis he made his way towards the first aid tent, he had volunteered to help out there as a way of getting out of having to do any of the events.I wish I had thought to do that.
Instead here I was, dragging my feet in an attempt to prolong the journey to what I will now be referring to as hell- the netball court.
At least I looked cute, the one upside to all this was that it gave me an excuse to wear my hot pink gym set. I feel like a human gum-ball in the best way possible.
As Poppy and I reached the building and swung open the double doors to enter we walked up to Sarah from accounting, a really lovely woman who was going to be the games 'referee'.
Sarah sorted us in to teams, sadly separating me and Poppy, before leaving to grab a coffee and allow the teams time to decide who was playing what position.
Smiling a good morning to all of my team members, we all quickly started discussing what position each of us wanted to play.
I ended up as a centre through no fault of my own and internally groaning just thinking about all of the running I was going to have to do.
Taking a break from the team conversation I looked around the room just to see who had shown up to watch our match and was pleasantly surprised to see a few familiar faces.
Frank, a few of the receptionists and basically all of the marketing team were here so I smiled and waved at all of them before I finally dared a glance in the camera guys section of the seating area.
I smiled and waved at all of them as well and if my eyes lingered on Kai for a bit longer than the rest, well that was my business. As Sarah came back and everyone lined up on the court in their positions I readied to try and grab the ball.
I smiled and said good luck to the woman playing the other centre but she just glared back.
This is why I hate competitions, is there really any need to get competitive at a work netball game?!
I think I must have let out a gasp in shock because I swear she snarled which is just deranged. Focusing back in on Sarah I watch as she threw the ball up evenly between us before I jumped up to grab onto it.
Catching the ball I spun around on my heel and threw it to the wing attack. This was when the other centre reappeared and was fully in my personal space. I didn't even have the ball anymore?!
Sighing I kept track of the balls movements and jumped when our goal shoot scored.
45 minutes later I was severely sweaty and sufficiently out of breath, ready to call it a day. Our team was actually winning too, something that snarly wasn't too happy about evidently. She kept getting in my space and had even made a few blatant pushes at me throughout the game.
