I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring in my ear, jolting me out of a restless sleep.

Last day's encounter with 'Him' still lingered in my mind. The memory of his piercing blue gaze and chiseled features haunted me....

As I rolled out of bed, my gaze fell upon the party invitation on my dresser. Freshers' Party, Tonight, 8 pm, Shravan's Birthday Bash.

Oh shit!!

A shiver ran down my spine. Why had I agreed to go?

Mumma knocked gently on my door, breaking my reverie. "Good morning, bachcha!! How are you feeling today?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

I forced a smile. "I'm fine, Mumma."

But Mumma saw right through me. "Pakka? You seem a bit off."

I hesitated. "Just thinking about the party tonight."

Her expression turned serious. "Vani, do you really want to go? You can always stay home." I shook my head. "Nah, Mumma. I need to face him."

Mumma nodded. "Okay, but promise me you'll be careful."

"I will, Mom." I said.

We spent the day relaxing at home, watching movies and chatting. My beautiful mom made my favorite lunch - biryani and chicken - haww! My all time favorite!

And we enjoyed it together in the backyard. My papa is currently not in Canada; he has traveled to our actual home in Delhi, India, for some work purposes. I'm currently in Canada for educational purposes, and after completing my studies, I will return to India.

Back to the topic, the warm sunlight and gentle breeze calmed my nerves. As the evening approached, Mumma helped me get ready, styling my hair into loose waves and doing my makeup lightly. I rapidly put on my black saree, which featured a tasteful, moderate cut at the back, chosen with the help of my two best friends. The saree fit perfectly, accentuating my curves, and the overall effect was stunning. As I slipped into my heels, Mumma handed me a delicate necklace with a tiny crystal pendant. "This will complete your look," she said with a smile.

As I was putting on my bracelet, as I always do, I realized it was missing because that arrogant man had taken it. '𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒂𝒏 𝒌𝒂𝒉𝒊 𝒌𝒂' my inner self mocked.

As the clock struck 7:30 pm, I was ready. "You look beautiful, bachcha," Mumma said, beaming with pride, while applying Kohl behind my ear.
(*Note that kohl is an Indian tradition used to protect loved ones from the evil eye*
However,Shravan is the exception to the rule😉)
