You put the final box down. You and your daughter had moved in early in january. You felt exhausted from all the moving and paperwork. Going up from the basement, you were greeted by a crash.
"Mooommyy...!"
A higher pitched voice yelled. You rushed into the kitchen, nearly slipping. The child was on the floor, her knee bleeding, a broken glass next to her.
"Alice..! Oh dear god- are you okay?! Does it hurt?"
You grabbed some towel and knelt down next to her.
"Nope..!" She cried "But my favorite glass broke..!"
You sighed as you clean up her wound. As soon as it was done, Alice got up and hugged you. You patted her back.
"It's alright, Alice.. We can buy a new one later"
She sniffled into your shoulder
"Promise?"
You smiled
"Promise"
Alice let go of you and ran back to the backyard. She had always been an energetic child. Though unfortunately it led her to falling a lot, whether it was a small rock or nothing at all. Perhaps she got that from you.
Though, she was only four. What would you expect from a toddler? She doesn't know the world well yet. You went to the closet and got yourself a broom to clean up the glass.
You peered over your shoulder. Alice was busy talking to herself in the yard. Was it concerning? A bit. You assumed it was just an imaginary friend. Well, you had one too as a child.

Alice looked over at the forest behind the fence. She felt... Watched. Well, does that mean they want to be her friend? That must be it! Her lips curled into a smile. She walked over to the large fence. Unfortunately for her, she was too short to see a lot more beyond it.
She huffed. She wanted to see whoever or whatever it was that was watching her.
"Hey! You! I know you're there!"
No response.
"C'mon..! Are you scared or something???"
Still no response. She huffed. Maybe they were shy? She hummed. She tried jumping over, though she still couldn't reach it. Maybe she could find a few things to stand on.
She ran back inside, up to the dining room. The dining chair would work, right? All she needed to do was drag it. She tried to drag it, her small hands pulling on the legs of the chair.
"Alice, what are you doing?"
You stood behind her, a plate of food in your hands. You had just finished making dinner. You put the plate of spaghetti down onto the table surface.
"I saw a thing in the trees!"
She vaguely described it with her hands. You didn't understand though.
"It was probably just an animal, sweetheart"
Shu huffed. Letting go of the chair legs and hopping on. She sat there, swinging her legs.
"It's not an animal! It's a new friend!"
She insisted. Alice looked at you in the eyes and smiled widely.
"Then then when I finally catch them- I'll be able to play with them!!"
Well, as long as it wasn't a dangerous animal, you could be okay with that. You sat down in front of her.
The new house you two moved in was located near a forest. The neighbors were pretty nice, but most of them were old couples. Unfortunately for alice, there was not much children her age to play with.
You can tell that it's getting to her a bit. Alice had always loved talking to people. Especially in their old town. She practically knew every kid there. You hoped once she could start kindergarten again she'd make new friends.

Alice sat on her bed. She couldn't sleep. She just needed to know who that was. She was sure it was a person. It looked like one at least.
Gripping her blonde hair she huffed. Why won't they reveal themselves? She didn't get it. She was being nice, right? She got off her bed, walking across her room to the window.
From here at least, she could see how vast the forest was. It was dark too, so she couldn't see much. Her (e/c) eyes scanned around the forest, looking for something, anything! Surely it was still there right??
Then she noticed something in between the trees, just slightly behind the fence. A person! Finally! Was that was what had been watching her?? Should she go down??
Mommy should be alseep.. She got off of her toy box, tip toeing to her door. It slowly creaked open. She peeked her head through. No one, her mother was already alseep. She tried to quietly walk pass her mother's door, walking down the stairs and too the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the yard door was locked. She huffed. The key must be somewhere. She searched every drawer,at least ones that she could reach. She couldn't find it.
She didn't want to give up. Should she try to pry it open? No.. She didn't want to break the glass door like she broke her favorite glass. Her knee still hurts from it.
"Hello..?"
She whispered. Hoping whoever it was out there could hear here. Though, it was impossible. Maybe she could try tomorrow morning. Not sure that they'd even still be there.
With a disheartened look, she decided to head back up into her room.
Thump
She heard a tapping from the glass. Looking back, her smile widened.

You woke up as early as you could to start making breakfast. You still felt a bit tired. Maybe you shouldn't have stayed up reading. What you read was not important anyway.
You went downstairs to find Alice already wide awake.
"Mommy, look! I made a friend!"
"That's nice sweetie- "
You turn around only to see the 'friend' covered in blood. A Little girl. Her dark brown hair was a mess. Her pink nightgown tattered. Blood dripping everywhere.
"Hello!"
The girl smiled. She didn't even seemed to be in pain despite the amount of cuts and blood on her body.
Yup.
You were definitely hallucinating.
