Amara's POV:
Today's the big day—the grand debut of my university journey. I gotta admit, I'm feeling a wild mix of nerves and jitters. My family just uprooted our lives and plopped us down in London, and man, everything feels so dang new. Let me tell you, adjusting to this fresh environment isn't exactly a walk in the park.
So, there I am, stepping into my first class, it's like a whole friend party up in there. Everyone's got their little groups, laughing it up and having a blast. And me? Well, I'm just chillin' in one lonely corner, feeling like a total outsider.
For two entire hours, nobody even bated an eye in my direction. I might as well be a ghost for crying out loud. But just when I'm about to succumb to the mind-numbing monotony, BAM! The door swings open, and in walks, this tall young man with perfect thick black hair, wearing casual sweatpants and a hoodie, and he couldn't care less about what anyone thinks.
But you should've seen the effect he had on the room. Suddenly, all eyes are on him, like he's the star of the show. There's this mischievous sparkle in his eyes, like he's got a secret he isn't ready to spill. It's like the whole atmosphere does a complete 180. It's like the universe decided to inject a little thrill into an otherwise snooze-worthy day.
As I was checking him out, I noticed this girl and guy eyeing him like hawks. My heart sank, thinking they were probably his girlfriend and best friend. I mean, how could he not have a girlfriend, I quickly lost interest and focused on the boring professor instead. But then, out of the blue, the seats next to me moved, and guess who sat right next to me? Yep, him. My cheeks turned red, and I felt all flustered. But my interest went right back down the drain when the girl plopped down next to him. Ugh, talk about a buzzkill.
So there we were, the three of them sitting together, while the lecture carried on. The other two were all chatty and flirty while he was dead serious, scribbling away in his notebook. I couldn't help but notice that he never even glanced at the girl next to him. I mean, it was a bit of a relief, but it also made me wonder why he chose to sit next to me when there were a gazillion other seats available all over the damn place. Lost in my thoughts, I didn't even realize that his pen had dropped right next to my foot. He kept asking me to pick it up, but I was in my own world and ignored him. Frustrated, he shook me out of my daydreaming.
"Hey, Amara, can you pick up my pen for me?" he said, snapping me back to reality. I reluctantly picked it up and handed it to him. He just mumbled a quick "thanks" with a blank expression.
Hold up a second. How the heck did he know my name? I was about to ask him, but before I could, he got a phone call and dashed off.
As he left, I overheard the girl saying, "Daniel, when will our brother ever stop having these clumsy mishaps? It's getting annoying. He can't go anywhere without some kind of interruption." Daniel, apparently the guy's name, replied, "I don't know, sis, but I'm sure he's just as annoyed." That's when it hit me—they were siblings. Phew, at least it wasn't some love triangle drama.
But before I could fully process that, another girl approached them. Seriously, another one? She squealed, "Eliza, where's my Blakey?" Who the heck is Blakey? The girl with the guy, whom I now knew as Eliza, snapped back, "First, don't call my brother Blakey. Second, he's not yours. And third, what the heck are you doing here?" The new girl replied, "Oh, Eliza, don't act like you don't know me. I study here too. Geez, you're so forgetful." Then she noticed me and made a disgusted face. "Ewww, why is she here?" she said, looking at me like I was something nasty. Eliza defended me, telling her it was none of her business and told her to scram.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any crazier, Blake came back looking all tense. He informed Daniel that he had to leave and instructed him to finish taking notes and give them to him later at home. Blake glanced at me quickly, his gaze lingering for a moment, and then hurried off.
Why did he look at me like that? It was a mix of curiosity, intrigue, and something else I couldn't quite put my finger on. My mindraced with questions. Did he recognize me from somewhere? Was there something about me that caught his attention? I couldn't help but feel a strange connection, even though we had barely exchanged a few words.
I couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that there was more to this encounter than meets the eye. As the lecture continued, I found myself stealing glances at Blake's laptop, which displayed a handsome picture of him. My curiosity got the better of me. There was an air of mystery surrounding him, and I couldn't help but wonder what secrets he held beneath that calm exterior.
The class finally came to an end, and I gathered my belongings, ready to head out. As I walked towards the exit, I couldn't resist stealing one last glance at Blake's laptop. Outside the lecture hall, I saw him scrolling on his phone. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and in that instant, I saw a flicker of recognition. It was as if we were two puzzle pieces, each holding a missing part of the other.
But before I could approach him or make any sense of the situation, he disappeared into the crowd, leaving me with a head full of questions and a thrilling sense of anticipation. The encounter left me with an inexplicable desire to unravel the mysteries that surrounded him and discover the truth behind that intense gaze.
Little did I know that this chance encounter was just the beginning of a journey that would take me down uncharted paths, where secrets, connections, and unexpected twists awaited. The mystery deepened, and I couldn't wait to dive headfirst into the enigma that was Blake and the world he inhabited.
