"Sorry, are you okay?" a familiar voice asked.
I got up on my feet as he let go of me. "Ahaha, yeah, I’m sorry," I replied awkwardly. He was wearing a cap and mask, hiding most of his face, but something about him felt oddly familiar—his voice, his presence, even the way he stood. There was an unshakable sense of déjà vu that I couldn't shake off.
I realized my own face was hidden too, buried beneath my hoodie and scarf. Still, curiosity gnawed at me. "Sorry, have we met before?"
He paused for just a second, adjusting his jacket as though to buy himself time. "Not that I know of," he answered, his voice a little too even. He gave a quick, polite bow. "Sorry, I'm in a hurry. Have a good day."
Before I could respond, he turned away, walking briskly toward the elevator. I barely noticed someone calling his name as he disappeared into the crowd.
At that moment, Jieun rushed out of the bathroom, oblivious to my racing thoughts. "Haeni, it’s so crowded in there! My makeup got smudged again, so I just gave up and took it all off."
I didn’t look at her right away, still focused on the figure walking toward the elevator. "Jieun, am I crazy, or did that guy in the cap… look like Kim Sunoo?"
Jieun glanced over at the man just as he stepped into the elevator, tilting her head. "Hmm, maybe a little. But it's probably not him. What are the chances?" She shrugged, tugging at my arm. "Come on, let’s go. Jihoo’s waiting."
I let her pull me along, but my eyes stayed glued to the elevator until the doors closed. My heart wouldn’t stop racing, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I knew who that was.
Could it really be him?
