Elam?!

He was in Elam's body?!

Leon remembered Satan had mentioned this name once, when he thought Angel was just Angel and that flower field was his dream.

Body of Elam, the name of those uncannily beautiful red flowers. Azazil had said that Elam was someone very important to him but was murdered a long, long time ago. Leon had forgotten about this name after Azazil's true identity was revealed, but now that he recalled it, he wondered exactly how long ago Elam lived. Because now, Leon had a feeling that this memory was unfathomably ancient, antediluvian even, and it was a whole forgotten age before any human history, at least the human history that he knew, began.

The exorcist started to understand the bashfulness on Azazil's face when he proposed letting Leon share his memory. But how did Azazil's memory seemingly also encompass Elam's memory so perfectly that Leon felt as if he was Elam? That he was feeling what Elam was feeling and thinking what Elam was thingking. Was it because angels' memories worked differently than humans?

And how in the Lord's name did he understand their language? That was definitely not English, nor Latin, Italian, Korean, or demon language...Was it The First Language? The tongue that angels speak?

Leon felt a smile rooted deeply within his chest blooming on his face, or Elam's face. Then he bowed slightly before the three seraphim and said, "It is an honour to have you here, Revered Celestials."

Gabrial the Pure smiled affably at him, the six giant, speckless white wings draped behind him like an extravagant cape. He said sonorously, "You have proven your worthiness of God's most endearing love by being extraordinarily courageous on the battlefield, defending God's creations without hesitation and doubt."

Ashmedai, the most alluring, charming Angel of Love, continued, "We've brought your warriors rewards for your unparalleled feat. As for you, God has promised you one wish, and we shall carry out your wish as if it is the wish of God."

Leon could hear, or more accurately, feel Elam's thoughts. Elam wanted to request to return to Eden, the heavenly garden where he was born. But then he knew his mission hadn't finished yet. The Deep Ones, an invading army sent by another god in a distant galaxy, were only temporarily driven into the sea, but they hadn't left the Earth yet. God ordered him to clear out every last of them, and he was far from that final goal. If he asked to go back, God wouldn't be pleased.

So Elam decided to go with the second best option, "I...I wish Azazil to stay on Earth to help and guide me, even if just for a while."

Leon saw Azazil's eyes widen in surprise, and so did Gabriel. Ashmedai smirked knowingly, as if he knew something others didn't.

Azazil and Gabriel exchanged a quizzical look, but then God indeed instructed them to obey Elam's wish, no matter what it was. Azazil seemingly was a little annoyed, not because he didn't like Elam. As the commander of one-third of angels in heaven, he had mountainous duties to attend to and barely had time to pause for a minute. Even though angels didn't experience fatigue as often as humans, it was still taxing. And now, was he supposed just to drop everything and become a babysitter of humanity once more?

What in heaven's name was Elam thinking?! Hadn't they just reunited and fought the invaders together ten years ago?

At the time, Azazil still knew very little about how humans experienced time, and he hadn't known that even though to him a decade was as swift as the passing of a day, to men, it was a significant chuck of their lifetime. Back then, the Golden Age humans had much more extended longevity than Iron Age humans, but ten years was still a very, very long time to them.
