The trio ran through the corridors of La Rose High, their footsteps echoing off the walls as they sprinted toward the school's newspaper office.
When they reached the door to the newspaper room, they didn't bother knocking. Grey shoved it open with his shoulder, the door swinging wide as they walked inside, their breaths ragged.
The room was cluttered with half-written articles, stacks of papers, and photos scattered across every surface. Liam wasn't there yet. Just a string of luck.
Miles quickly began searching the drawers, pulling out files and papers but finding nothing useful. Grey went straight for the main table where Liam usually worked, shoving aside pens, crumpled drafts, and a half-empty coffee cup. His fingers brushed against something soft—Yuto's camera bag.
"Yo, I've got it!" Grey shouted, yanking the bag off the table. He quickly unzipped it, and his hands looked for any signs of photos. Miles and Yuto rushed over, leaning in close as Grey dug through the bag.
Their eyes widened as Grey pulled out a stack of photos. They were all there—every shot Yuto had taken of Kelly Owens lying lifeless in the leaves.
"We need to burn these," Grey muttered, glancing toward the door as if expecting Liam to walk in at any moment.
"No, we can't do it here," Miles said quickly. "Too risky. Let's get out of here before someone shows up."
Just as they were about to leave, the door creaked. All three of them froze, their blood turning cold.
It was Liam.
He stepped into the room, looking puzzled as he saw the trio huddled by his desk. "What are you guys doing in here?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. His gaze flicked down to Yuto's camera bag in Grey's hands, and suspicion sparked in his eyes.
Grey quickly stuffed the photos back into the bag, trying to remain calm.
"Just, um, grabbing something I left earlier. For the newspaper, you know." Yuto spoke calmly.
"Really? Cause it seems like you're stealing my stuff." Just as he was about to walk closer, Miles raised his arm up. "Wait!"
Liam stopped and raised his hands. "I have work to do; leave the office before I call one of the teachers." He threatened.
Miles walked to him and slinged his arm over his shoulder. "Did you put me on the newspaper? You know as the debate captain?" Miles asked. Liam gave him a look of disgust before removing his arm off his shoulder.
Yuto walked to him as well. "Let's talk about your editorial position, mh? I think we should hire someone new, fresh." While Yuto led him out of the room, Grey shoved the photos in his school blazer pocket.
Suddenly, Miles phone vibrated in his pocket. He picked it up to see Auburella calling.
"Hello?" Miles spoke through the phone.
"Miles, they're calling our parents!"
Miles heart sank as he put the phone on speaker. "Dina, what do you mean 'they're about to'? Can't you stop them?" Miles asked, his voice low but urgent.
"We're trying, but it's not looking good," Dina replied, sounding close to panicking. "The police are saying it's standard procedure for an investigation like this."
Grey cursed under his breath, while Miles thought of a plan. "Listen, we're not that far away. Keep them distracted."
Dina hung up with phone, while Grey and Miles looked at each other. They both sighed and ran out of the room.
