Welcome to the grand city of London, the well-known Capitol of England, ruled by her Majesty Queen Victoria. It is 1850, before cars and telephones have yet been invented and honed. This is the victorian era, an influential time period for the country of Great Britian.
But this is not the time you have come to know. What you will discover here was never written in any textbooks, and you won't be able to discover it even with the deepest of searches. You need to experience.
London is the same, yet very different. Magicians are now a part of culture, and create entertainment and mystery like nothing before. Some are simply making money, regular men (and the occasional women) with the know-how to create wonderfully mysteries illusions. Some, however, are quite real indeed.
Unbeknownst to most of London as a whole, magic is rampant here. London is at the centre of magic, and very near the doorway to the magic plain, a world where no human can exist. Magicians draw magic from this world; and sometimes it slips through the cracks, releasing into the foggy city. Strange occurrences happen, and are mostly blown off as a trick of the eyes. But that's what magic is, isn't it? A trick. Over the years, magicians have learned the ways of the magic. Spells, potions, brews and summonings. It's very tricky business indeed.
All magicians belong to the Magic Circle, a secret community of magic users all throughout London. But time has worn on, and as the circle gets older, so does their magic. They lose strength. It is time for a new generation of magic, and you will be a part of it. For where there is magic used for good, it can always be used for evil.
You have received a letter, wherever you may be. Will you answer the call?
Dear (character name),
I hope you receive this letter. It is of the outmost importance that it reaches your hands.
You don't know who I am yet, but I would very much like that to change. I know who you are. I apologize if that sounds forward, but I've only one piece of paper to explain myself. I don't have the luxury of avoidance at this time. You are very important to many futures. Mine, yours, and the whole of London. I'm writing you from London, you see. It's the centre of magic.
I know that may seem hard to believe, but magic is very real. Perhaps you are lucky enough to hail from a family of magicians, and you knew this letter was coming. Or perhaps you think I'm mad, speaking of magic like a possibility. I implore you to have an open mind.
You're receiving this letter because you have special heritage. You have magicians' blood in your veins. My father, the late Head Magician of The Magic Circle, spoke of his dream for the circle to live on with his last breath. I intend to carry out his wishes. We need to restore the Circle to its former glory. Together.
London needs its magicians back--the balance is off. I can feel it every day. So please, listen to me. We all need each other. The time for a new circle of magic is here.
If you decide to heed this letter, come to London at once, to Ackerman manor. I have enclosed the directions in the envelope, which I hope you've not misplaced.
The magic is waiting.
Yours truly,
E. Ackerman
