TWO CANTEEN MUGS— clicked together in celebration of the ceremonial occasion that had taken place only hours before. All recruits, whether they made the elite cut or not, came together joyously; setting aside their rivalries to enjoy the satisfaction of this one night. Laughter filled the air, blending with shouts of conversation and scents of a feast. As of now, you were no longer just soldiers-in-training, or cadets. Depending on where you're going, you'll be comrades who are bound by shared trials of survival, exhaustion, and hope.

While the camp, normally so disciplined and quiet, pulsed with life— you sat outside of the bunker, nursing a mug of warm bitter tea, letting the noise from inside and out, swirl around you. The stars had come out, dotting the sky like small flickers of light in the vast darkness. The atmosphere should feel lighter, right? Everyone is happier and a little more free. But for some reason, it doesn't change how jumbled your thoughts are or how heavy your heart feels. With knowledge comes hard decisions, and with hard decisions comes more knowledge. But figuring out what to do with it, is the worst part.

As you sit in the stillness of the night, your thoughts begin to trace back to the journal and the riddled note tucked inside. These aren't just cryptic messages— they're instructions. Instrumental clues meant to guide you without clouding your judgment. It is clear by the way you were abruptly thrown into this situation, that this journey has to be genuine. Your choices, actions, and experiences must be authentic. Otherwise, what's the point? If someone had handed you the answers, it would dull the impact. It has to come from your twenty-first-century heart, or else that mysterious girl could've just forced your past life to relive this nightmare over and over until it ended the way it was meant to, right?
