Adhyalekha

We three sisters came out of my chamber after getting ready for the Pooja. We were keeping a close eye on every single person including the staff and the guests.

The servants of the Palace were busy in last-minute preparations as only an hour was left for the auspicious time of the Mahapooja.

We walked through the Palace corridors with attendees walking beside us. The corridors were lit with lamps and decorated with marigold flowers. The sweet smell of the flowers lingered throughout.

We finally reached Goddess Durga's temple built inside the Palace area. As we were getting closer to the temple I got flashes of the letter I received. This was the very place I received it, and since then, my life has been disruptive.

Chitra nudged my shoulder to bring me out of my thoughts. I looked at the soldiers greeting us at the entrance of the temple. I nodded my head in response and entered the temple, followed by Lekha and Chitra.

The temple was decorated beautifully. It was covered with yellow and orange marigold flowers on all four sides. Rangoli designs were made near the entrance. Drums were being played and hymns were being sung.

My eyes went towards the 15 feet idol of Goddess Durga, and I joined my hands, looking at her. The Goddess looked magnificent. Her hair was open, and she was decked in jewellery from head to toe. Her hand held a trishool (a type of weapon) and she sat on a lion. Her eyes looked gentle yet held the blaze.

I closed my eyes and prayed to her. After the death of my mother, I have worshipped her as my mother. She is called Jagat-janani (The mother of all beings), and rightfully, she was also my mother.

I opened my eyes after hearing the announcement of the king's arrival. I turned back to see him entering the temple. It was the first time I saw him after the incident.

I looked at my sisters who were also looking in his direction. He looked the same as usual, his face laced with arrogance. The only difference was that his security had increased. Soldiers were covering him from all sides and he walked in between.

I appreciate him being concerned for himself but does he really think that he can protect himself from the person who is capable of entering the Palace while it was filled with thousands of people and attempted to murder him so easily? I believe my father is taking this matter too lightly. For keeping his veil of pride he might lose his life. I shook my head at his foolishness.

He came near us and both my sisters greeted him. I did the same half-heartedly. I basically saved his life,he could have atleast checked on me. He is my father after all!

He nodded his head in response.

"How are you now,Adhyalekha?"he asked me in a casual tone.

I just stared at his face with a stoic look.

"Badi jaldi yaad aa gayi aapko humari!"

"You recalled about me very soon!" I mocked him with a sarcastic smile. He glared at me but said nothing.

"Anyway! To answer your question, till now I was fine but after your arrival I can't really say."

"What do you mean?"he asked with a frown etched on his face.
