"Hey, Jess? I'm going job searching. Michael and Sammy are going to the Boardwalk again tonight so you don't have to worry about them." My mom starts to tell me from out the door just as I stub out my cigarette. I nod as she rounds the corner. She falters, walking in further, settling at the foot of my bed. She looked at the pictures that were on my night stand before smiling at the old memories.

"You miss him, huh?" She asked, indicating my father.

"Who cares, couldn't give two shits what happens to him." I reply candidly. My mother and I might not have a super social bond all too much but that doesn't mean I don't hate him for what he's done to her.

"Atta girl." She smiles widely, a small smile of my own forming. I turn back to reading the book I was in the middle of as she got up from my bed walking towards the door. She slows, turning back as she gives me a playful look.

"Oh, and uh, don't burn down the house." I gape at her as she leaves.

"REALLY?!? One time! It was one time- Mild fire! Wasn't even that bad!" I yelled after her, her laugh following her as she leaves.

Me? Burn down the house? As if! Once. Once! And I didn't even burn down the house. I thought I would try and be a good daughter for my mom and dad and cook breakfast- But nooooo they gotta focus of the burnt kitchen instead of the lovely gesture!

I hear my mom leave, which invokes the need in me to get up and harass my little brother. I made my way towards Sammy's room, barging in noisily.

"Hey! You ever heard of knocking ass-..." He started to curse, realizing quickly who it was.

"Uh-oh."

"Ass-uh-oh? Hmm, classy if I do say so myself." I just stupidly.

"Yeah like that one? It's original." He returned with a grin.

"Better you be original than just another copy." I shrug as he grabs his shoes, putting them on. Once he was done putting them on I threw him over my shoulders, bouncing my way out of the room. I laughed at him as he attempted to get down, and kept squirming around.

"Mikey!! Get your ass down here!" I yelled out to him as I make my way down the stairs.

I could still feel Sammy moving around but restrained him further and waited for Michael. He finally shows his face, laughing at the sight as I place the boy down.

"Hey, Sammy, why don't you go outside and wait for us, okay?" I gesture nicely. He waves us off, letting the door close by itself, which it doesn't fully.

As he walked outside I noticed Michael trying to sneak away from the corner of my eye. I grabbed his collar pulling him back over to where he was standing. He sighs, knowing what's to come, already dissociating from my words before I could even start.

"Do we really have to go through this? You do this every time." He whined.

"Ohh, boo-who. You know the rules. If Sammy gets hurt in any way, I'll skin ya alive, got that? Don't let the girls distract you to much there, bub." I scold, laughing at his facial expression. He waves me off this time, turning on his heels and heading for the door.
